Ezekiel 11:19 I will give my people hearts that are completely committed to me. I will give them a new spirit that is faithful to me. I will remove their stubborn hearts from them. And I will give them hearts that obey me.
God could have offered us nothing more startling, exciting, and far-reaching y=than His announcement, His personal desire to ‘give us a new spirit that is faithful to Him’. To give us hearts ‘completely committed to Him.’ What a plan God has for us! with all the trouble, faults, mistakes, and sins associated with our past lives whayt do we still find it so hard to obey Him? God has taken the initiative and He is calling us to take the action required to live lives worthy of Him.
To consider ourselves worthy of such a gift and blessing we must first consider ourselves unworthy. we must count the cost of handing over everything to God, our past, our guilt, foolishness, failure, and the way we have mistreated others. I am sure there are many more character defects that have plagued our lives we must now name, give to God and claim His victory over them.
Now is the time to set in motion the kind of change in our lives that is a pre-requisite for the wonder-working change God will invoke. A time when we need to get serious about our desire to change our lives. A time when we honestly desire personal experience of God’s promised word to develop us into the people He is calling us to be. when we can do this He will intervene in our lives in ways we can only imagine. It is then a case of thanking Him, trusting Him, and accepting all He has prepared for us.
Through the process of recovery, our old spirit is exposed: a spirit of rebellion, corruption, contradiction. A spirit that needs to be expelled. Somertime bad news in our lives is positive but painful. To enjoy the miracle of a new spirit within us God is always willing and waiting for us to accept.
WE CAME TO BELIEVE THAT GOD COULD RESTORE US TO SANITY
This is the very best way to love. Put your life on the line for your friends.
I am sure there have been times in all of our lives when we thought we had blown it. Places we have been where we believed there was no coming back from. Times when we knew left to our own devices we were finished.
.Jeremiah 29:11-14 says “I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. “When you call on me when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen. “When you come looking for me, you’ll find me. “Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed. I’ll turn things around for you.”
God encourages us to love Him, trust Him, put our faith in Him and encourage others to do the same.
Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Don’t you realize that this is not the way to live? Unjust people who don’t care about God will not be joining in his kingdom. Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults—unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. Give a warm welcome to any brother who wants to join you, even though his faith is weak. Don’t criticize him for having different ideas from yours about what is right and wrong. Don’t bad-mouth each other, friends. It’s God’s Word, his Message, his Royal Rule, that takes a beating in that kind of talk. You’re supposed to be honoring the Message, not writing graffiti all over it. God is in charge of deciding human destiny. Who do you think you are to meddle in the destiny of others?
The Bible is pretty clear on how we should treat others. Jesus said the greatest commandment is to ‘Love God’ and the second [just as important] is to ‘Love Others’ It is easy for us as we walk this road to recovery to fall back into our old ways of thinking and behaving. That is not how God calls us to act and behave. Our example is Jesus, who loves everyone and died that all may have the same opportunities as we have. Everybody Needs Recovery and God wants everybody to have the opportunity to receive it. It says in the scripture above the way we treat others will boomerang on us. Treat others as Jesus would treat them!
1 Peter 2:16 Live like free people. But don’t use your freedom to cover up evil. Live like people who serve God.
Serving others is real leadership. In Matthew 20:26 Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant.” Instead of judging others, we are called to serve them. Jesus came to earth with a mission “to serve others and die for their sin.” Real leaders have servant’s hearts, appreciate the worth of others, and realize they are not above being used to serve wherever they are needed. Real leaders don’t wait to be asked before they get involved and do what needs to be done.
In recovery, there are lots of opportunities to serve. Recovery works best when we are all involved.
- What can you do to serve others where you are right now?
Prayer: Lord, help me to be more like You in my willingness to serve others. Open doors for me to walk through that lead others back to You
Good morning all. Posted this with pdf as a tester for next year’s posts. Join me on January 1st here as we commence the Living Life Recovery series for 2022.
Isaiah 42:6 “I am God, I have called you to live right and well. I have taken responsibility for you, kept you safe. I have set you among my people to bind them to me, and provided you as a lighthouse to the nations,
Now we have a high priest who perfectly fits our needs: completely holy, uncompromised by sin, with authority extending as high as God’s presence in heaven itself.
Jesus came to save sinners. To encourage us, to teach us to live right. To keep us safe and to help us to share His glory with those still suffering from the negative effects of addiction and compulsions in their lives, or the lives of a loved one or friend.
As we share Christmas together and approach a new season in our spiritual walk may Gods help us be all that He created us to be so others may also know the joy that can only come through personal relationship with Him through faith.
All through my spiritual walk God has inspired me by putting the right people in my path at the right time with the right words to keep me moving forward.
Be gentle with one another, sensitive. Forgive one another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you. Be careful that when you get on each other’s nerves you don’t snap at each other. Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out.
God’s servant must not be argumentative, but a gentle listener and a teacher who keeps cool. So don’t lose a minute in building on what you’ve been given, complementing your basic faith with good character, spiritual understanding, alert discipline, passionate patience, reverent wonder, warm friendliness, and generous love, each dimension fitting into and developing the others.
I READ THIS, THIS MORNING: and it sounds like good advice.
How can anyone pray at all times? One way is to make quick, brief prayers your habitual response to every situation you meet throughout the day. Another way is to order your life around God’s desires and teachings so that your very life becomes a prayer. You don’t have to isolate yourself from other people and from daily work in order to pray constantly. You can make prayer your life and your life a prayer while living in a world that needs God’s powerful influence. We also should pray for all others in Christ; so pray for those you know and for the church around the world.
‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me…….. as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ Matthew 25:40
None of us can escape social responsibility. Charitable generosity is often used as a means to cover-up for our many omissions in the field of practical help and goodwill. The more we study the life and ministry of Jesus the more we will be impressed by His love for all, and compassionate action/ When we ‘make a decision to let God help‘ we enlist as His followers and the same spirit must increasingly take hold of us.
How much we dread the thoughts of past days when we treated others, whilst ‘under the influence’ and assumed an aggressive attitude that often knew no boundaries.
The affect of alcohol and drug-abuse are far reaching, Multitudes of innocent victims suffer enormously because of them. If we caused serious damage, hurt and irreparable harm then we need to continually pray for God’s healing to extend beyond ourselves to those who suffered the consequences of our sinful and selfish behavior.
What The Bible Says
Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand–shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
Trivialize even the smallest item in God’s Law and you will only have trivialized yourself. But take it seriously, show the way for others, and you will find honor in the kingdom. Matthew 5:19
“Grow up. You’re kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you.” Matthew 5:48
“In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can’t get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others.”
