Responsible Trust in God requires seeking His will and His power to carry it out.
I am so pleased that you have continued on in this with us, believing and proclaiming God’s Message, from the day you heard it right up to the present. There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears. Philippians 1:5-6
Carrying out social relief work involves far more than helping meet the bare needs of the poor. It also produces abundant and bountiful thanksgivings to God. Proclaiming the Message: telling others who God is and what He has done in and through your lives is an important part of the recovery process. One of my favourite experiences in the Salvation Army services was Testimony Time. Where people from the congregation had opportunity to tell others what God was doing in their lives at whatever step of the Spiritual Growth process they were at. One of my favourite times in recovery meetings is the Sharing Time. Where individuals get a chance to do the same thing. Our stories disclose in a general way – What we used to be like – What happened and What we are like now.
God has a plan and a purpose for you and a plan and a purpose for me. and, I thank Him today our plans got to intervene. For that we should give abundant and bountiful thanksgiving too Him..
“I wish I had your faith” “You’ve got it easy” I wish I had a dollar for every time someone has said these things to me. Following Jesus and serving Him is not always easy. When things don’t go according to plan in my life my natural inclination as a man is to ‘fix it’ To do whatever I have to do to make it right. But that’s not what God tells me to do
Job 4:6 says “Shouldn’t you worship God and trust in him? Shouldn’t your honest life give you hope” Following Jesus means waiting on Him, for things to happen in His time? Sometimes that is hard. When you see things falling apart, do all that you can, and waiting for Him to intervene isn’t always easy or comfortable.
If you fall to pieces in a crisis, there wasn’t much to you in the first place. Strategic planning is the key to winning. Since God has so generously let us in on what He is doing, we’re not about to throw up our hands and walk off the job just because we run into occasional hard times. Don’t shrug off God’s discipline, but don’t be crushed by it God is educating you; that’s why you must never drop out. He’s treating you as dear children. This trouble you’re in isn’t punishment; it’s training, Don’t resent God’s discipline; don’t sulk under His loving correction. Anyone signing up for the kingdom of God has to go through plenty of hard times.
Just for today Lord strengthen me as I go through Your program of disciplining me. Help me persevere when times get tough. Don’t let my weaknesses get the better of me. Help me to rely on Your strength to overcome whatever comes my way today.
God’s eye is on those who respect him, the ones who are looking for his love. Psalms 33:18
God Rejoices when we follow His will, live our lives in every area to His plan and purpose. Now I know that is not easy but that is why it is called ‘Spiritual Growth’ None of us got to the point in our lives overnight where we thought ‘I think I will follow God’ It was a process of trial and error where we tried things and sometimes failed, but we never stopped trying.
It says in 1 John 2:9 Anyone who claims to live in God’s light and hates a brother or sister is still in the dark.
- LOVING GOD IS THE MOST IMPORTANT COMMANDMENT IN THE BIBLE
- LOVE NEVER QUITS
- GOD’S LOVE IS BEYOND OUR UNDERSTANDING
- GOD’S LOVE IN US IDENTIFIES US AS HIS
One of the identifications of being on the right track in recovery is how we treat and react to others. Through us God wants to love others who still suffer from the negative effects of addiction and compulsion. A very wise mentor of mine told me many years ago “Archie because of who you are. because of your experience, strength, and hope you have been given the ability to reach people that won’t even talk to me.” God’s love not only sets us free it prepares us to be used by him to make a difference in the lives of others.
After discovering my sinful habits and attitudes and confessing them, I am now willing to let God change me.
To successfully complete Step Six you must:
LET GOD TRANSFORM YOUR WILL AND YOUR LIFE
God says, “I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.” Jeremiah 29:11
LET GOD WORK IN AND THROUGH YOUR LIFE
The Bible says, “Eventually, God will bring everything that we do out into the open and judge it according to its hidden intent, whether it’s good or evil.” Ecclesiastes 12:14
LET GOD WORK HIS WILL IN AND THROUGH YOUR LIFE
We saw that we weren’t making even a dent ……………. and gave up. “It’s in God’s hands now,” we said. “Master, you handle it.” Acts 21:14
I wanted to share a part of my week this last week. Last week we were in lockdown for Melbourne metro area. Because of work, I spend most of my time in South Gippsland, where I stay in a work-provided ‘crew house’ On Wednesday night in South Gippsland there was an extreme storm. It knocked out the power, the phone lines, and all data access. It was so cold being unable to sleep. In the morning unable to eat, shower and get warm and at work because of the power outage unable to complete my work successfully to the expected standards. The rain and the wind had forced the vessel coming back from offshore to be unable to go out and do its mid-week deliveries. Adding to the pressure of having to prepare everything for a weekend run, without power and the ability to do things the way we usually do.
To say I felt POWERLESS is an understatement but I felt blessed to remember the Serenity Prayer and remember GOD HAS NOT BROUGHT ME THIS FAR TO DROP ME. So we did what we could and by the time loadout came on Friday, with God’s help and support everything came together and the boat sailed with all the food on for platforms required. As I thought about this event I thought to myself “How do people who do not believe in or depend on God when things go wrong?”
Isaiah 30:15 says “God, the Master, The Holy of Israel, has this solemn counsel: “Your salvation requires you to turn back to me and stop your silly efforts to save yourselves. Your strength will come from settling down in complete dependence on me— The very thing you’ve been unwilling to do.“
Salvation comes from God alone. Because He has saved us, we can trust Him and be peacefully confident that He will give us the strength to face our difficulties. We need to lay aside our plans and allow Him to take control of the things we cannot change.
The Lord’s decisions are good forever. His plans are good for generation after generation. Psalms 33:11
Fear of th uknown can be frightening, but when we trust God to make the changes needed in us we can be sure He will carry us through
Psalms 71:8 As each day brims with your beauty, my mouth brims with praise.
God is pleased when we think about His Word. When we study it, meditate on it and apply it to our lives.
Joshua 1:8-9 says “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Read Joshua 1:1-9 Joshua/ost his close friend and mentor Moses. Instead of using it as an excuse to give up he immediately took up the leadership role. Unworthy and unprepared he demontarted bold obedience to God , able to do what God required of him because He was willing to turn His will and His life over to the care of God.
I AM MAKING A DECISION TO LET GOD HELP ME CHANGE AND COMMIT TO WORKING WITH HIM TO DO SO
– Joshua made a decision to let God help him become all he needed t be and he made a commitment to do whatever God told him to do, when God told him to do it.
Each day do my thoughts, words, and actions line up with God’s purpose for my life?
– Do I think about things that would please God?
– Do my words reflect what I am thinking about?
– Do I act like someone who is following God’s direction?
I ask myself these three questions because sometimes when I wake up my head is not in the right place. I allow my own desires and plans to take precedence over what God wants me to do and so I set myself up for failure because I am not depending on Him.
God created desires in us as a way of expressing our individual personalities. Desires in our lives are healthy when properly directed. If they are good and God-honoring. Bt the can also bring us unstuck if we allow our own desires to become more important than God’s desires or us.
Proverbs 2:3-5 Cry out for insight and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God.
Lord help me today to cry out to You for insight. Seek to understand Your plans for my day and search for ways to make Your will my reality as I go through this day.
Proverbs 14:23 says “Hard work always pays off; mere talk puts no bread on the table.“
At the end of 2020 I was motivated to begin ‘podcasting’ on this website via ‘Soundcloud’ but the past couple of days I have had difficulty getting motivated. Not something that happens a lot to me. My plan was to start podcasting on 1st January 2021. Today at some point I will complete that plan (only two days late) At this point in 2021 I want to thank everyone for their support of this website during the years. You have watched it change in the format a number of times. 2021 podcasting and vlogging I hope will be around for a while. I will launch the first podcast at some stage today for 2021. Believe it or not, the preparation has been done for some time I have just dragged my feet at pulling it all together. Thanks again for your support I look forward to sharing my experience, strength and hope with you in 2021.
