Nearly everyone suffering the negative effects of addiction and compulsion engages in deceitfulness. It is a practice we needed to live the way we lived
We can be ruled from within by our own sinful nature. Whilst detesting the bossiness of others we can fail to see character defects in ourselves that put us on a par with them.
Don’t let anyone divert you from the truth. It’s the person who acts right who is right, just as we see it lived out in Jesus. Once you’re convinced that he is right and righteous, you’ll recognize that all who practice righteousness are God’s true children. Surely you know that Christ showed up in order to get rid of sin. There is no sin in Him, and sin is not part of His program. If we claim that we’re free of sin, we’re only fooling ourselves. If we claim that we experience a shared life with Him and continue to stumble around in the dark, we’re obviously lying through our teeth—we’re not living what we claim.
Sin is Rebellion: Living out our attitudes and behaviors contrary to God’s will.
God plans what is good for us. We suffer from fear of the unknown, even with this knowledge. How often have you said out loud God’s got this!” whilst thinking to your self “I hope He has?” God wants us to ‘follow Jesus’ He sent Him to earth not just to die for us but to teach us how to live here on earth. Sometimes I think we are so focused on the latter to live our lives today. Our life here on earth is a series of appointments and events. In which we have a huge amount of freedom to choose. seeking God’s will through prayer, meditation, discussion with others, and examining all the circumstances in our lives helps us to make the right choices and to follow where He leads.
God may not have revealed all His plans for you now, but He has revealed everything you need to know to live life according to His purpose today.
It wasn’t so long ago that you were mired in that old stagnant life of sin. You let the world, which doesn’t know the first thing about living, tell you how to live. You filled your lungs with polluted unbelief and then exhaled disobedience. We all did it, all of us doing what we felt like doing, when we felt like doing it, all of us in the same boat. It’s a wonder God didn’t lose his temper and do away with the whole lot of us. Instead, immense in mercy and with incredible love, he embraced us. He took our sin-dead lives and made us alive in Christ. He did all this on his own, with no help from us! Ephesians 2:1-5
Romans 4:7 Fortunate are those whose crimes are carted off, whose sins are wiped clean from the slate.
Salvation means your sins have been forgiven, the slate has been wiped clean. Forgiven by the Grace of God, not because you deserve it but because He loves you and believes if you are willing to allow Him you can change your attitudes, behaviours and convictions and become a better version of you. That through learning and applying His will to you life you can be blessed.
Salvation means your sins are completely forgiven. Psalms 103:12 As far as sunrise is from sunset, he has separated us from our sins.
Salvation means the stain of guilt is gone. Psalms 51:9 Don’t look too close for blemishes, give me a clean bill of health.
Salvation means you have received God’s mercy. 1 Peter 2:10 From nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.
1 John 4:18 Perfect love drives fear away. Fear has to do with being punished. The one who fears does not have perfect love.
God’s perfect love in our lives confirms our salvation.
One of my biggest fears during my addictive years was fear of abandonment. Since high school I have always been involved in a romantic relationship. Some of them unhealthy. Most of them for the wrong reasons.
I did not cope with being alone! Since I have been in recovery I have had one romantic relationship, with my wife.
The difference between my relationship with my wife and the others in my life is acknowledging God’s love and following His guidance in our lives.
Think about this: “Emotions come and go and can’t be controlled so there’s no reason to worry about them. That in the end, people should be judged by their actions since in the end it was actions that defined everyone.” –
When I think back on my past relationships and their eventual ending I realise there end was less about how I felt and more about my actions. Without accountability for our action we get hurt, others get hurt and God is not included in our relationship.
Don’t let sin control the way you live
Refuse good advice and watch your plans fail; take good counsel and watch them succeed. Congenial conversation—what a pleasure! The right word at the right time—beautiful! Proverbs 15:22-23
We have a high priest who can feel it when we are weak and hurting. We have a high priest who has been tempted in every way, just as we are. But he did not sin. Hebrews 4:15
- We can be comforted knowing that in His life here on earth Jesus experienced temptation. Encouraged Encouraged that even though He faced temptation He did not sin. Jesus showed us that no matter what we face in life we do not have to sin – RELAPSE IS A CHOICE!
Christ doesn’t, wait for us to get ready. He presented himself for this sacrificial death when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready. And even if we hadn’t been so weak, we wouldn’t have known what to do anyway. Romans 5:6
We may have all heard whopping great stories of the one that got away’ by exaggerating fishermen or whopping great lies told in the playground by school boys. It is not untrue to declare the world is full of multitudes of whopping sinners.
People are often puzzled when someone dre to point out blemishes in their characters have been unable to see.
The Word of God’s love to a prodigal race reminds us of what it cost God to send Jesus to die for our sins. It surpasses reason, but should win our hearts. Isaiah 53:5 “He was wounded and bruised for our sins. He was beaten that we might have peace; he was lashed—and we were healed!” Hebrews 9:26 He came once for all, at the end of the age, to put away the power of sin forever by dying for us. 1 Peter 3:18 He died once for the sins of all us guilty sinners although he himself was innocent of any sin at any time, that he might bring us safely home to God.
There is only one remedy for sin. It is salvation purchased by the blood of Jesus at Calvary. We will remain whopping sinners, frowing worse, unless we accept God’s salvation which is greater, and much bigger than any sin.
Sobriety can only be maintained if we, (with other things) nurture a right attitude. It is not only alcohol and drugs that defeat us
Alcohol and drugs are international problems. Users belong to the universal brotherhood. We have blood relationships with those of different colors of skin.
