2022 | Day Thirteen | Morning Harmony

We can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. All praise to God and our One True Higher Power, Jesus Christ! God is the Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, He brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us. Blessed are you who give yourselves over to God, turn your backs on the world’s “sure thing,” ignore what the world worships; The world’s a huge stockpile of God-wonders and God-thoughts.

MEDITATION
When the Holy Spirit convinces us to receive Christ we get a new perspective and a new mindset on life, We trust that God has our lives planned and He will guide us and equip us for wherever He wants us to go. Faith in God helps us to face the truth about ourselves, our lives, and our need for change. Some of us believe because Godcomforts us our problems are going to go away. We need to understand God will give us the strength, encouragement, and hope to deal with our problems.

If today you are feeling overwhelmed at what lies ahead of you, I ask you to remember God is there to help. He places in our lives other people on the same path so we can help us and they can help us move forward in the recovery process. The passage above says ‘blessed are you who give yourselves to God.’ It also says we need to turn our backs on the world’s ‘sure thing’ ACTION IS THE MAGIC WORD!

PRAYER
Just for today, God help me to turn my back on the things that seem like a shortcut to solving my problems. Give me the strength, encouragement and, hope to listen to the people you place in my life. Help me to help them where I can as they also help me on the road to recovery.

2022 | Day Eight | Morning Harmony

Hurry with your answer, God! I’m nearly at the end of my rope. Don’t turn away; don’t ignore me! That would be certain death. God, my God; I want to look life in the eye. Surprise me with love at daybreak; then I’ll skip and dance all day long.  You forgive our sins—every one. You heal our diseases—every one. You redeem us from hell—save our lives! You crown you us with love and mercy. You wrap us in goodness. You renew our lives —our lives are always good in his presence.

Waiting on God’s timing isn’t always easy! Feelings of loneliness and abandonment can creep into our lives. The Bible tells us the Devil is waiting to pounce in times of doubt and uncertainty. We can allow our feelings to run riot and make us make bad decisions. Even at times when our intentions are good we can still get it wrong, misreading God’s will and moving ahead without Him.

God is still on the throne! There are wilderness times in my life where I felt it better to do something than to do nothing and get it wrong. Times when after making the wrong decisions, taking the wrong actions God has intervened and surprised me because His ways are better than my ways. Times where He has set me on an unexpected path because He knows what is best for me, Take time today to Wait on God!

Time for Recovery!

You will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13

Our hope and our future are dependent on our willingness to chase after a personal relationship with the One True Higher Power – Jesus Christ and discovering His purpose for our lives.

God is not looking for a lukewarm recovery! He is looking for commitment, 100 %. Many people come and go when it comes to recovery. They start off uncertain and when they discover it works are set on fire in pursuit of it. Then, when the going gets tough, for whatever reason they give up and go back to their old familiar ways.

I have been in recovery for many years. At times it has been heartbreaking to see people wanting to do the right thing be put on a pedestal by others. Given responsibility, they were not yet equipped to handle and fall in a heap. Not equipped because they have not been given time to discover God and His purpose for them. We all have different spiritual gifts, we all have different abilities. What others see as our calling may not be what God sees as our calling.

This verse comes right after the verses that say in Jeremiah 29  ” I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

Can I please ask everyone going through the process of recovery to take your time. ‘TIME’ is one of the most important ingredients in recovery. It is not a race and I am confident God in His wisdom is not calling all of us to immediate service. Take time, talk to Him, listen to Him, and get to know Him. In His time He will reveal to you what He is calling you to do and to be and He will equip you for the task,

Corrective Faith

The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. Hebrews 11:1

Hebrews 11:6 tells us “It is impossible to please God without faith.” Let us never forget the excessive preoccupation of always trying to appear like we had it all together.“Fine in all circumstances.Sin twists divinely given impulses into ravishing lust or unGodly desire.

We are now on a quest for victory over the things which have dragged us down. Our priority now rejecting the artificial and sham. The mad scramble to be numbered among the worldly-wise, and popular no longer appealing.

Like building a jigsaw puzzle all the crazy pieces of our lives have to carefully put into their rightful place, under an amazingly interested Lord and Savior, whose hand can alone make the next corrective move in and through our lives.

In faith we are being called to empty ourselves on order to be filled with the grace and power of the Holy Spirit. When we have God in our lives we are no longer looking for something – we have found it. recovery is about personal relationship with Him. We cannot earn or buy His favor. Faith is what launches us into life changing experience where we can rise above our obsessions and follow ‘The Way’ of our Lord.

“I wish I had your faith” “You’ve got it easy” I wish I had a dollar for every time someone has said these things to me.

Following Jesus and serving Him is not always easy. When things don’t go according to plan in my life my natural inclination as a man is to ‘fix it’ To do whatever I have to do to make it right.

But that’s not what God tells me to do

Job 4:6 says “Shouldn’t you worship God and trust in him? Shouldn’t your honest life give you hope”

Following Jesus means waiting on Him, for t hings to happen in His time. Sometimes that is hard. When you see things falling apart, do all that you can and wait for Him to intervene isn’t always easy or comfortable.

A New Spirit

John 6:63 The Holy Spirit gives life. The body means nothing at all. The words I have spoken to you are from the Spirit. They give life.

For about 30 years of my life I suffered from a bad back. A result of an accident when drunk which I never took care of when I got clean.

A couple of years ago I had a Pastor in healing ministry pray with me for my back and it was fixed.

During that prayer session the Pastor and I discussed healing ministry and the importance of retraining your Spirit to communicate in God’s power to your body.

Power that is available to us all when we put Jesus in His rightful place as our Lord and Savior.

Recovery requires renewal of your spirit in God’s strength.

  • Take time to talk to God about renewal of your spirit.
  • Stop, listen and follow the Holy Spirit’s leading.

If you persist in your slanders against God’s Holy Spirit, you are repudiating the very One who forgives, sawing off the branch on which you’re sitting.

The Spirit can make life. Sheer muscle and willpower don’t make anything happen. Every word I’ve spoken to you is a Spirit-word, and so it is life-making.

Some of you are resisting, refusing to have any part in this.” (Jesus knew from the start that some weren’t going to risk themselves with him. He knew also who would betray him.) Peter said, “Change your life. Turn to God and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, so your sins are forgiven. Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

God Has a Plan

Psalms 10:14 God, you see trouble and sadness. You take note of it. You do something about it. So those who are attacked place themselves in your care. You help children whose fathers have died

No matter what you are going through now God sees it, He knows your sadness and he will provide you a way out.

Most of us would have heard the cliché in recovery ‘IT DOES GET BETTER!’ I don’t want to rub salt into old wounds, but it does. The key ingredient is ‘Time’

Recovery is a continual process of spiritual growth. Spiritual maturity comes through learning and applying the Twelve Steps to our lives daily and persevering ‘One Day at a Time’ with God’s help.

  • Do you believe that God sees what you are going through?

  • Do you believe He is doing something about it?

Jesus removes the barriers between us and God so we can have direct access to Him. Through His death and resurrection, He delivers us from powerlessness.

God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need him.  Psalms 46:1

Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Proverbs 3:5-6

We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all but the sin. So, let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help. Hebrews 4:15-16

The Friend, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will make everything plain to you. He will remind you of all the things I have told you. John 14:26

Prayer: Today God let me trust in you and rely on Your power not my own.

Remember the Chaos

A person without self-control is like a house with its doors and windows knocked out. Proverbs 25:28

  • Control limits us but it is necessary. An out-of-control life is open to all sorts of attacks by the enemy. Think of self-control as a wall for defense and protection.

Time and time again I have sat in meetings and heard people talk about the ‘insanity’ I want to talk today about the chaos.

The chaos of waking in the morning and having to drink just to go to work. The chaos of working out what stories to make up for being late home because I had stopped at the pub, and sometimes having spent all my wages.

You know addicts are clever people. We can come up with excuses in an instant, justify the worst behavior without batting an eye-lid.

  • Consider the chaos of your using and how you managed it.
  • Are you glad the chaos has stopped?

GOD DOESN’T CREATE CHAOS
God doesn’t stir us up into confusion; he brings us into harmony. 1 Corinthians 14:33

GOD’S PEACE IS OUR GIFT
I’m leaving you well and whole. That’s my parting gift to you. Peace. I don’t leave you the way you’re used to being left–feeling abandoned, bereft. So don’t be upset. Don’t be distraught. John 14:27

GOD DISMANTLES CHAOS
Nothing, you see, is impossible with God.”Luke 1:37

Prayer: God let me put some order into my chaos today.

Prepare For the Future

Recovery is about developing your faith in God’s ability to help you change and stay changed.

I have seen many people fail in recovery because they don’t plan not to. I have seen many people fail to move forward in recovery because of the “One day at a Time” concept.

The Bible is clear we should live for today, forget about yesterday and not worry about tomorrow, that doesn’t mean we should not plan anything.

Whilst in rehab I wrote, with God’s help a five- year plan for every area of my life. It took me three years to accomplish because my faith was in God not myself.

– Where do you want to be in five years?

– How are you going to get there?

Proverbs 9:6If you want to live, give up your foolishness and let understanding guide your steps.”
