2022 | Day Thirteen | Morning Harmony

We can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. All praise to God and our One True Higher Power, Jesus Christ! God is the Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, He brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us. Blessed are you who give yourselves over to God, turn your backs on the world’s “sure thing,” ignore what the world worships; The world’s a huge stockpile of God-wonders and God-thoughts.

MEDITATION
When the Holy Spirit convinces us to receive Christ we get a new perspective and a new mindset on life, We trust that God has our lives planned and He will guide us and equip us for wherever He wants us to go. Faith in God helps us to face the truth about ourselves, our lives, and our need for change. Some of us believe because Godcomforts us our problems are going to go away. We need to understand God will give us the strength, encouragement, and hope to deal with our problems.

If today you are feeling overwhelmed at what lies ahead of you, I ask you to remember God is there to help. He places in our lives other people on the same path so we can help us and they can help us move forward in the recovery process. The passage above says ‘blessed are you who give yourselves to God.’ It also says we need to turn our backs on the world’s ‘sure thing’ ACTION IS THE MAGIC WORD!

PRAYER
Just for today, God help me to turn my back on the things that seem like a shortcut to solving my problems. Give me the strength, encouragement and, hope to listen to the people you place in my life. Help me to help them where I can as they also help me on the road to recovery.

2022 | Day Twelve | Verse for Today

Anyone working and living in truth and reality welcomes God-light so the work can be seen for the God-work it is. The Spirit of God whets our appetite by giving us a taste of what’s ahead. He puts a little of heaven in our hearts so that we’ll never settle for less. God’s Holy Spirit, is moving and breathing in you, in the most intimate part of your life, making you fit for His work. Don’t take such a gift for granted. Keep your mind on God; don’t refuse to walk down His road. Don’t turn a deaf ear and end up in the wilderness.

  • Don’t fail to achieve the goals God has ready for you to achieve, Don’t end up in the wilderness, wondering why you can’t change your life. The Israelites failed to enter the Promised land because they didn’t believe God would protect them to overcome the problems ahead of them. for 40 years God sent them into the wilderness. Don’t let your lack of trust in God’s ability stop you from becoming all He wants you to be and doing all He wants you to do.

2022 | Day Five | Discussion Starter

Numbers 23:19  God is not man, one given to lies, and not a son of man changing his mind. Does he speak and not do what he says? Does he promise and not come through?

Lying in the past was my way of life. I thought nothing of it. I lied so much I believed my own lies. Coming into recovery I was still a liar. My life was all about me. My shame and disgrace at the life I led prevented my being honest with myself, God or others,

In my life since ‘turning it over to God’ one of the mottos of my life is “Always tell the truth, even when it hurts,” There is nothing in my life, bad or good the consequences of are worthy of losing my ‘integrity’ I would like nothing less than to declare I adhere to that motto. But that would be a lie.

I’m human and the instincts of self-preservation that exist in us all sometimes get the better of what I know and profess. I am happy to say “I am getting better.” And, my carelessness with the truth is diminishing.

  • Are you a liar?
  • Why can’t you be honest?
  • Are you ready to live a life that demands rigorous honesty?

Prayer: Just for today Lord help me to tell the truth. Your Truth. Make m,e aware of my own dishonesty and give me the strength to overcome it.

Why is honesty important?

Honesty is important because God is honest and expects us to be honest.
The Lord demands accurate scales and balances; he sets the standards for fairness. Proverbs 16:11

IF YOU WANT TO APPROACH GOD you need to be honest.
Who may climb the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies. Psalms 24:3-4

THE LEVEL OF OUR HONESTY demonstrates the quality of our character.
“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.Luke 16:10

Look at those who are honest and good, for a wonderful future awaits those who love peace.
Psalms 37:37

STOP and look how far you have come.

In order to discover God’s purpose for my life, implement it, and improve my relationship with Him,
I will spend time daily in prayer, reading the Bible, and meditating on it.

Galatians 4:9 Now you know God. Even better, God knows you. So why are you turning back to those weak and worthless beliefs? Do you want to be slaves to them all over again?

Change in our lives is not always easy. In fact, most of the time it’s hard. And it doesn’t usually happen quickly. That’s why recovery is a process. There will be times in the process when you will feel like throwing in the towel. Days when you think it is all too hard. I want to encourage you today to keep going, you are doing well.

If you are feeling like that right now take time today to stop and look back. Take inventory on where you came from, where you are now and how you got here, to this point.

Step Eight ~ Week Three

As part of the process of change, I will identify and record everyone I have harmed and through prayer become willing to make restitution to them

My name is Archie, and I am a recovered alcoholic. Recovered through the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit moving in and through my life on a daily basis.

Acts 3:19-26 “Now it’s time to change your ways! Turn to face God so he can wipe away your sins, pour out showers of blessing to refresh you, and send you the Messiah he prepared for you, namely, Jesus. For the time being, he must remain out of sight in heaven until everything is restored to order again just the way God, through the preaching of his holy prophets of old, said it would be. Moses, for instance, said, ‘Your God will raise up for you a prophet just like me from your family. Listen to every word he speaks to you. Every last living soul who refuses to listen to that prophet will be wiped out from the people.’ “All the prophets from Samuel on down said the same thing, said most emphatically that these days would come. These prophets, along with the covenant God made with your ancestors, are your family tree. God’s covenant word to Abraham provides the text: ‘By your offspring, all the families of the earth will be blessed.’ But you are first in line: God, having raised up his Son, sent him to bless you as you turn, one by one, from your evil ways.”

Today’s reading is taken from the message. Over the years I have been involved in churches I have had people telling me “the message is not a version of the Bible.” So before I share what God has given me to share tonight I want to say “without the message I would not be here!” When I first came to a decision in my life in 1989 if I wanted to get serious about changing my life I had to get to know – about God and His way of living. At that time, I was given a copy of the message New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs and they became my lifeline. At the time I read a Proverb a day and a chapter of the New Testament. And it changed my life.

It says in the Bible in Romans 12:2 Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. For me that verse was life-changing. All I ever wanted in my life was to fit in. I never felt like I did and if I am honest a lot of the time now, I still feel like that.

Tonight, I want to begin by sharing the preamble of Living Life Recovery, given to me in 2005 when God challenged me about what I was doing with people with addictions and how was I going to get involved?

The Preamble
Living Life Recovery is a safe place where people can come, share, and investigate the realities of God’s promises for themselves.
We believe that as we investigate God’s promises for our lives and practice the ‘Spiritual Principles of Recovery’ as outlined in ‘God’s Word we will find the strength and freedom we need to live productive and peaceful lives.

We welcome anyone who has a sincere desire to change their lives. To rise above the pain and turmoil caused by dependencies and compulsive behaviours their own lives or the lives of a loved one or friend.

We are here to worship God and to share our experience, strength, and hope with each other. The support of other members, daily prayer, and reading of ‘The Bible’ prepares us to experience total serenity in Christ no matter what our outward circumstances may be.

Attendance at 12 Step groups and establishing an accountability relationship with a trusted more experienced member is strongly encouraged.

We are dedicated to the principles of anonymity and confidentiality. Nothing shared in our ‘Group Discussions’ will leave the group in any form.

Gossip and bad language have no place in a ‘Christian Recovery Ministry’ and will not be tolerated

I have been running my website http://LivingLifeRecovery.com since 2008 with a view to reaching people with addictions and sharing my faith with them in hope that they might get a glimpse of what God has in store for them and want to pursue it. The website I try to keep it twelve steps centred as I believe strongly that the steps are a great tool that God wants to use to influence the lives of people with addictions. I also believe that if the entire church would learn and adapt the twelve steps to their daily living the people in them would live a better version of what the Bible is talking about than they do now. Another reason I like the message is that I have found through my own experience of reading and studying it the language used is easy to understand and it speaks more in day-to-day vocabulary than some of the other versions.

I have been tempted over the years to move away from the message because I don’t feel people in churches take you seriously in your faith when you are not using a Bible they approve of.

Anyway back to today’s scripture.

In Acts Chapters 2 and 3 in his speeches, I think Peter gives us good examples of adapting God’s message to your audience. On speaking to the Jews gathered in Jerusalem to celebrate Pentecost he relied heavily on quotes from the Old Testament. If you read those two chapters, you will realize that his words were so effective 3,000 people were converted.

That in itself made me think “how can I best use my own experience, strength, and hope to reach the people God places in my sphere of influence?” I am not a preacher, I am not a teacher, nor am I particularly gifted in sharing the Bible with other people. What I do have I believe is the experience of walking daily with the Holy Spirit and via Him learning to trust and obey God in my life. When I first started blogging my wife asked me the question “What are you going to talk about, that people want to listen to.” A few years ago, she said to me “you better right some of this stuff down, so it is not lost.”

The difference in my life and in my recovery is my daily walk with the Holy Spirit. This week I wanted to talk about something totally different that than I am. But the Holy Spirit prompted me to speak about this. So here goes: What I would like to do is take these verses, break them down and expand on what the Holy Spirit and I discussed as I lay awake in bed on Wednesday night.

Acts 3:19-20 say “Now it’s time to change your ways! Turn to face God so he can wipe away your sins, pour out showers of blessing to refresh you, and send you the Messiah he prepared for you, namely, Jesus.

IT IS NOW TIME TO REPENT
Acts 2:38 Peter said, “Change your life. Turn to God and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, so your sins are forgiven. Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

  • Repentance is necessary for relationship with God.
  • Repentance is our only hope of receiving God’s mercy.
  • Repentance open the way to a new life with God.
  • Repentance allows us to receive God’s forgiveness.

IT IS TIME TO FACE UP TO WHAT GOD HAS DONE FOR US
Hebrews 9:28 Christ’s death was …. a one-time event, but it was a sacrifice that took care of sins forever. And so, when he next appears, the outcome for those eager to greet him is, precisely, salvation.

  • Salvation means we are forgiven by grace through faith.
  • Salvation means our guilt is gone – the slate is clear.
  • Jesus promised that if we believe in Him, we will receive salvation.

IT IS TIME TO RECEIVE JESUS AS OUR ONE TRUE HIGHER POWER

  • Jesus is all powerful.
  • Jesus gives life.
  • Jesus is the Highest Authority.

Acts 3:21-22 For the time being he [Jesus} must remain out of sight in heaven until everything is restored to order again just the way God, through the preaching of his holy prophets of old, said it would be. Moses, for instance, said, ‘Your God will raise up for you a prophet just like me from your family. Listen to every word he speaks to you.

The Way of God

  • God guides us.
  • God works everything in our lives out for His plan.
  • God directs every event in our lives.

IT IS TIME TO LISTEN TO GOD

  • Listening to God helps us to grow and mature spiritually.
  • Listening to God keeps us on the right track.
  • Listening to God helps us to make the right decisions for our lives.

Acts 3:24-26 All the prophets from Samuel on down said the same thing, said most emphatically that these days would come.

  • There is no such thing as coincidences.
  • We are all part of the family of God.
  • It begins with me.
  • Blessings from God come with changed life.

Step eight is about relationships. It is about establishing and maintaining a friendship with God, through the Holy Spirit.

  • True friendships are bonded in loyalty and commitment.
Proverbs 17:17 Friends love through all kinds of weather, and families stick together in all kinds of trouble.

  • Friendships are destroyed when boundaries are violated.
  • Everybody wants friends, but we are not all willing to invest in relationships.
  • Everyone goes through times when relationships are strained. Examine the cause of the strains.
  • God is your constant friend. He will never leave you and as a bonus He will help you to do whatever it is you need to do to complete the eighth step.

‘No Turning Back’

After discovering my sinful habits and attitudes and confessing them,
I am now willing to let God change me
.

… What do you think God expects from you? Just this: Live in his presence in holy reverence, follow the road he sets out for you, love him, serve God, your God, with everything you have in you, obey the commandments and regulations of God that I’m commanding you today—live a good life. Look around you: Everything you see is God’s—the heavens above and beyond, the Earth, and everything on it. Deuteronomy 10:12-14

Often we ask, What does God expect of me?
Here Moses gives a summary that is simple in form and easy to remember.

Here are the essentials:
(1) Live in His presence (have reverence for Him).
(2) Follow the road He sets out for you.
(3) Love Him.
(4) Serve Him with everything you have in you.
(5) Obey His commandments.
(6) Live a good life.
(7) Understand everything above and beyond is His and He is your God.

Focus Verse: Deuteronomy 10:12 “Live in his presence ……… follow the road He sets out for you.”

There are people who would prefer to go back rather than do what needs to be done to achieve recovery. There are others who almost get there but give just before it is achieved. Disappointingly many people turn to God, put their faith in Him only to turn back after a short time. This is a deliberate departure from living God’s way. A backward step backsliding, backing off, and backing down.

God never goes back on His word. 2 Timothy 2:13  “Even when we are too weak to have any faith left, He remains faithful to us and will help us, for He cannot disown us who are part of Himself, and He will always carry out His promises to us.” When we give our word to God. To follow Him by letting Him lead we too should not turn back but do ‘the work’ of living in His presence and following the road He sets before us. Then and only then can we truly understand and enjoy all He has in store for us and is already doing in us.

REPENTANCE

Think about where you have fallen from, and then turn back and do as you did at first. If you don’t turn back, I will come and take away your lampstand.
Revelation 2:5

The first post in the ministry of Jesus Christ was to call men and women to ‘repentance‘ No withdrawal of that command has ever been issued. Matthew 4:17 Jesus started preaching, “Turn back to God! The kingdom of heaven will soon be here.” We cannot bypass it, we dare not dilute it, we must not dismiss it lightly; it has to be an engaging word for us each for the term of our natural lives.

Repentance is a prerequisite to change life. It is the first thing to do when we ‘make a decision to let God help us change‘ It is the one thing required before God takes over in reclaiming our sin-ruined lives. Pleading and pardoning can only occur and be effective if SIN is realized as rampant and recognized as repulsive in our lives.

Repentance precedes forgiveness. It is not a once-in-a-lifetime exercise. It needs to be practiced daily.

Sin is shortness – a failure to measure up, weakness in attaining, backing away from God. Romans 3:23 Yes, all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious ideal.

Repentance is the message of recall when we say NO! to God. A word of encouragement to recapture our rightful place in relationship with Him. Never be afraid to repent but don’t treat it lightly. 2 Peter 2:21 It would be better if they had never known the way to righteousness than to know it and then reject the command they were given to live a holy life.

What The Bible Says

I have had one message for Jews and Gentiles alike—the necessity of turning from sin to God through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 20:21

“You can see now how it is written that the Messiah suffers, rises from the dead on the third day, and then a total life-change through the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed in his name to all nations–starting from here, from Jerusalem! Luke 24:46-47

Did you think that because he’s such a nice God, he’d let you off the hook? Better think this one through from the beginning. God is kind, but he’s not soft. In kindness he takes us firmly by the hand and leads us into a radical life-change. Romans 2:4

Come on, let’s leave the preschool fingerpainting exercises on Christ and get on with the grand work of art. Grow up in Christ. The basic foundational truths are in place: turning your back on “salvation by self-help” and turning in trust toward God.Hebrews 6:1

PRAYER
Thank You Lord, that I can come to You in penitence and prayer for help. Save me from my sin, and keep me from repition of failure and error.

Self-Control

STEP ONE I ADMITTED MY LIFE WAS A MESS AND I WAS OUT OF CONTROL

1 Corinthians 10:13 No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.

It is common in life when we fail to blame our circumstances of other people.

The truth is “I am responsible for my actions and reactions.” No one else can make me do anything I don’t want to do. Whether I do the wrong thing or the right thing is ‘my choice.’ Most of us don’t really want to hear that. Most of us have a hard time accepting it and most of us have a hard time doing something about it.

Recovery is not always an easy path to follow. Many times in my spiritual walk it would have been easier for me to go back to my old ways, where I felt more comfortable than to keep moving forward in recovery.

Moving forward is a choice I make every day in my life. The worst days in my recovery have all been better than my best using days.

To develop self-control, we need to understand God’s guidelines for right living. We do that through reading His Word daily, prayer, meditation and seeking counsel from others on our addictions, compulsions and overcoming them.

  • THINK! THINK! THINK!
Matthew 12:37Words can be your salvation. Words can also be your damnation.”

  • TURN IT OVER TO GOD
God says 2 Corinthians 12:9 “My grace is enough; it’s all you need. My strength comes into its own in your weakness.”

  • TRUST AND OBEY
1 Corinthians 10:13 No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.

Prayer: Please God help me to always remember where I came from.

The Good Shepherd

Psalm 1:1-2 How well God must like you– you don’t hang out at Sin Saloon, you don’t slink along Dead-End Road, you don’t go to Smart-Mouth College. Instead, you thrill to God’s Word, you chew on Scripture day and night.

When we first discovered alcohol and drugs we found a ‘friend’ to help us face up to life’s problems. It wasn’t long before that ‘friend’ became our biggest problem. To begin with, alcohol and drugs made our lives bearable, full and satisfying. Then we learned all we were left with was heartache and headaches.

It can be a shock to the system when we first discover an unfriendly foe we have supported, liked and treated generously. It can be a slap in the face, a hit where it hurts, a kick in the teeth. But, it is important to be woken to the truth. To reach a ‘turning point’ and discover that through recovery life’s problems can be faced without the use of alcohol and drugs. Relationship with Jesus Christ is our Way to discover and enjoying freedom.

I will delight in the Lord! Enjoy the freedom which is only found when I love in harmony with Him as my One True Higher Power. We are all God’s children! #Turn #Reach #Discover

What The Bible Says

NOW THAT I AM IN THE PROCESS OF CHANGE, I WILL CHECK MYSELF DAILY TO MAKE SURE I AM NOT SLIPPING BACK INTO MY OLD WAYS AND IF I AM,
I WILL TAKE STEPS TO RECTIFY IT.

RELAPSE

“You walked away from your first love–why? What’s going on with you, anyway? Do you have any idea how far you’ve fallen? A Lucifer fall! “Turn back! Recover your dear early love. No time to waste, for I’m well on my way to removing your light from the golden circle. Revelation 2:4-5
