James 1:5-7 If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who “worry their prayers” are like wind-whipped waves. Don’t think you’re going to get anything from the Master that way.
Too often we make bad decisions and then beat ourselves up for making them. Wrong choices that often led us into trouble. As we go on in the process of recovery we are still going to make some bad decisions (we are human) The GOOD NEWS is those bad decisions no longer to lead us into trouble because with God’s help we can correct them.
Step 11 says:- In order to discover God’s purpose for my life, implement it and to improve my relationship with Him, I will spend time daily in prayer, reading the Bible and meditating on it.
As we spend time daily with God and improve our relationship with Him we will learn His purpose for our lives. In time this will show us what we need to ask God boldly for so we can become the people He wants us to be and make the right choices based on His guidance.
Bible Reading: Exodus 17:1-7
WE SOUGHT THROUGH PRAYER AND MEDITATION TO IMPROVE OUR CONSCIOUS CONTACT WITH GOD,
PRAYING ONLY FOR HIS WILL FOR US AND THE POWER TO CARRY IT OUT.
The people were thirsty for water there. They complained to Moses, “Why did you take us from Egypt and drag us out here with our children and animals to die of thirst?” Exodus 17:3
Some problems can be solved by discussion and good counsel with a trusted friend of sponsor. Some can be solved through prayer and waiting for God’s response before we act on them.
The people of Israel complained about their problems, instead of praying about them. They had followed God’s leading into the desert, but doubted His ability to take care of them. This can happen to us in the process of recovery. We get involved in recovery and start to apply The Steps to our lives. We get into relationship with God but doubt that He can help us with all of our problems, so we complain to others ‘recovery doesn’t work for me’
Complaining only raises our stress levels, but prayer quiets our thoughts and emotions and prepares us to listen to God and live according to his will for our lives.
Lord, help me not to complain when I don’t understand what is going on. Help me to stay in contact with You, quiet my thoughts and emotions so I can listen to You.
