God Wants Everybody Saved

He wants not only us but everyone saved, you know, everyone to get to know the truth we’ve learned: that there’s one God and only one, and one Priest-Mediator between God and us—Jesus, who offered himself in exchange for everyone held captive by sin, to set them all free. Eventually, the news is going to get out. This and this only has been my appointed work: getting this news to those who have never heard of God, and explaining how it works by simple faith and plain truth1 Timothy 2:5-6

Apply The Process

1 John 2:9 Suppose someone claims to be in the light but hates his brother or sister. Then he is still in the darkness.

Not everyone you meet on the journey of recovery is on the right path.  In the Bible hatred and love as moral qualities are not primary emotions. They are attitudes expressed by our actions. In recovery knowing who’s on the right path is expressed in how the live, not what they say.

1 John 2:26 I’m writing these things to warn you about those who are trying to lead you down the wrong path. Recovery requires repentance and repentance needs to be accompanied by action.

Recovery means more than just knowing the process. It means putting the process into daily living.

  • How are you applying the processes you are learning in recovery to you daily life?

The Right Thing

1 Peter 3:10 Scripture says, “Do you want to love life and see good days? Then keep your tongues from speaking evil. Keep your lips from telling lies.

Because God is watching and listening to our recovery He will take care of us when we do the right thing. He wants us to the right thing all of the time but He also knows because we are human we won’t always do the right thing.

He also wants us to do what He considers the right thing, not what we consider to be the right thing. We learn what God thinks is the right thing through reading His Word. We also know what God considers to be the right thing through our consciences.

All of us have a God-built system of knowing what is right and what is wrong but we need to pay attention to it.

  • When have You done what God wanted instead of what you wanted because it was the right thing to do?

Expect God to Answer

1 John 3:22 We will receive from Him whatever we ask because we obey Him and do the things that please Him.

When you pray do you expect God to answer? If not, why are you bothering to pray?
God doesn’t always answer our prayers the way we think He should. Sometimes He says “Yes” sometimes He says “No” and sometimes He says “Not yet”

Communication with God is a learned experience, a disciplined experience, a personal experience of taking in God’s grace, God’s plan and God’s purpose for our lives. Prayer doesn’t change God, but it changes us. It’s a new ‘Master Plan’ for our lives where we learn to accept His will for our lives and keep moving forward in daily spiritual growth.
Keep It Simple

Be Honest

Luke 19:8 Zacchaeus stood up. He said, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of what I own to those who are poor. And if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay it back. I will pay back four times the amount I took.”

God knows the things we have done wrong. He knows the people we need to make put on our list. Yet He leaves it up to us. He does that so we can learn the importance of honesty in the process of recovery.

When we write our list it can be tempting to leave people off because we didn’t hurt them very much, they hurt us just as bad or because we don’t think God really cares about that one.

Our list needs to include everyone we can remember hurting or who have hurt us. Remember the list isn’t going to be shared with anyone to be as honest as you can.

  • Is there anyone you have left off your list intentionally?

Prayer: Lord help me be as honest as I can when making my list.

Live and Let Live

Facing Temptation

Proverbs 22:5 Thorns and traps lie in the paths of evil people. But those who guard themselves stay far away from them.

A large part of the process of change is the commitment to keep changing. Nothing stays the same, except God. We live in a changing world and as we grow spiritually we have to continually adjust our character, with God’s help according to our spiritual maturity.

Along the way, we will all face temptations. To overcome them we need to learn to stay close to God and to guard the changes He has made in our habits and attitudes.

I can honestly say since I entered recovery I have been offered more alcohol and drugs than I ever was when I was using. Thankfully with God’s help, I have always been able to say no.

  • Do you have a plan for avoiding the thorns and traps when they present?

Prayer: Lord help me to learn to arm myself against temptation when it comes.

God Creates Opportunities for us to ENCOURAGE OTHERS

Psalms 37:6 He will make your godly ways shine like the dawn. He will make your honest life shine like the sun at noon.

God wants to use you to encourage others. He did it with me and He wants to do it with you. That is why as we go through this process of becoming what God wants us to be we need to get it right.

God provides opportunities for us through the process of recovery. Learning opportunities where we learn more about ourselves and Him. It never stops! There is still so much about me I don’t know. Stuff that has not yet been dealt with in my sinful habits and attitudes. I know that because all the time memories are coming back to me about things I had forgotten in my past. The reason I believe it happens is that the more I grow spiritually the more God equips me to handle. He makes me aware of things to make me more like Jesus s I deal with them.

  • What are your God-given opportunities?
  • How are you using them?

The WORD For Recovery

Loss of Feeling

Ephesians 5:12 It’s a scandal when people waste their lives on things they must do in the darkness where no one will see.

When a person is under the influence of alcohol or drugs they can be insensitive to what they are doing, unaware of their stupidity or aggression. Their behaviour can be quite out of character. Their feelings can be over sensitive or numbed. It is a false world; reality is ambushed, decency squandered and others disregarded. Ephesians 4:19  says “They can’t think straight anymore. Feeling no pain, they let themselves go.”  We can be drugged by intoxication to the worlds poisonous ways.

A sought-after virtue of sobriety can be to feel nice about it. However, be warned it is unlikely any of us will escape days when we don’t feel good about it.  Recovery does not save us from those days and those feelings. We have to learn to place our faith above our feelings. Seek God in dealing with all our needs. Prayer can help drive away doubts and gloom, the Bible assist us in obtaining uplifting reassurance that ‘God is still on the throne.’

Go to The Temple and Take Your Stand

Scripture Reading: Acts 5:17-25

“Go to the Temple and take your stand. Tell the people everything there is to say about this Life.” Acts 5:20

Step 12: Having gone through these steps and discovering the importance of an individual relationship with God through Jesus, I will try to live according to His principles and to lead others to a personal relationship with Him.

Today I want to think about the message the angel spoke of. A new life that is available to us all. A new life of change.

Change comes to us through faith and the way we obtain faith is through the Word of God. The Bible is full of stories of people who through faith achieved great things. Another reason they achieved great things is that they were open to allowing God to change them. I believe one of the major stumbling blocks in us achieving great things is ‘PEOPLE TODAY ARE TOO PROUD TO ALLOW GOD TO CHANGE THEM. We get too comfortable in what we know and understand and are afraid to try new things. We need to humble ourselves before God.

No-one in this world, to my knowledge, ver achieved God’s will without humility. Jesus in John 13 washed the feet of His disciples, then ordered them to wash each other’s feet so they would learn a lesson in humility. He also wanted them to learn the importance of following his examples In order to change and become the people God wants us to become He expects us to also learn to follow the examples of Jesus. We have to learn to worship and praise Him, to serve Him with all our hearts in confidence and adoration.

God can and will use every one of us. If we let Him. We have to be prepared to change our attitudes and our actions. Wh have to take responsibility for our behavior. we have to face up to life, accept it and decide how God would have us live it differently? God keeps His promises to us. He promises nothing will ever be put in front of us we are unable to overcome with His help. Unless we are willing to open our hearts and lives to Him we have little or no chance of overcoming the problems of this world. He commands us to confidently follow Him. Love, Trust, and obedience to Him secure us a place in His Kingdom. If we are truly His children nothing on this earth will ever hurt us so bad we cannot recover from it.

I believe today I am a fairly confident, competent individual, not because I have any special talent but because I am a child of God and my chief aim in life is to glorify Him and do His work. I know that no matter where I am or what I am doing He is there with me. He guides me and protects me in every situation. I haven’t always felt that way. A few years ago I believed my only purpose in life was to get drunk, take drugs and cause trouble. I went out of my way to destroy relationships I had with other people because I felt I was not worthy of other people’s attention. I didn’t like the person I allowed myself to become through the life I led and I thought the rest of the world didn’t like me either.

Through the Salvation Army and The Bridge Program, I met Jesus and experienced the message of new life first hand. In John 2:28 the Bible tells us to continue in the ways of God, so on the day He appears to us we can face Him with confidence without shame. everything we need He supplies, if He is not then maybe we are seeking the wrong things. in his book ‘Prisoner of hope’ Barry Goode says “Prayer it seems is one of the most difficult pursuits for Christians. Yet it is most necessary and rewarding.” “You can find stones and rocks anywhere.” he says “but if you want something really precious like diamonds, gold or silver it takes time, effort, patience to unearth it.”

Everything God makes, He makes for a purpose. I am sure we are all aware of the verse in the Bible that says “Faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains.” God brings in His Kingdom by the mustard seed method. When we feel weak, ineffective, and inadequate as long as we have faith, even a minimum of faith God can use it.

When we feel weakest is usually when we are most open to the message of Jesus and the need for change in our lives. “Go stand in the temple courts and tell the people the full message of new life.” That’s the message the angel delivered to the apostles so long ago.

Today I would lie to say I believe only God knows the full message of new life. Only He knows how much can be achieved through faith in Him. And, the only way for us to find out His plan for us is to step out in faith, To let Him change us and lead us to new life so He can be glorified and we can be reconciled to him through the blood of Jesus.
