Purpose

Jeremiah 29:8-12 Believe it or not, this is the Message from God-of-the-Angel-Armies, Israel’s God: “Don’t let all those so-called preachers and know-it-alls who are all over the place there take you in with their lies. Don’t pay any attention to the fantasies they keep coming up with to please you. They’re a bunch of liars preaching lies–and claiming I sent them! I never sent them, believe me.” God’s Decree! This is God’s Word on the subject: “As soon as Babylon’s seventy years are up and not a day before, I’ll show up and take care of you as I promised and bring you back home. I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out–plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. “When you call on me when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen.

Jeremiah 29:10 This is God’s Word on the subject: “As soon as Babylon’s seventy years are up and not a day before, I’ll show up and take care of you as I promised and bring you back home.”

God speaks to us through His word:
He promises us that at the right time in our lives He will show up and take care of everything. He will take notice of what is going on in and through our lives and provide a solution to every problem.

Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Proverbs 3:6

Jeremiah 29:11 I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out–plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.

God has a plan for our lives and He knows what He is doing.
If you asked me today what I am searching for through recovery the answer is found in Step 11“In order to discover God’s purpose for my life, implement it and to improve my relationship with Him, I will spend time daily in prayer, reading the Bible and meditating on it.”

Proverbs 19:21 We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but GOD’s purpose prevails.

Proverbs 15:22 Refuse good advice and watch your plans fail; take good counsel and watch them succeed.

Ecclesiastes 3:17 “There’s a right time for everything, every deed–and there’s no getting around it.”

Ephesians 1:8-9 He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need, letting us in on the plans he took such delight in making. He set it all out before us in Christ.

Ephesians 3:12 When we trust in Him, we’re free to say whatever needs to be said, bold to go wherever we need to go.

Romans 11:7-15 When Israel tried to be right with God on her own, pursuing her own self-interest, she didn’t succeed. The chosen ones of God were those who let God pursue his interest in them, and as a result received his stamp of legitimacy. The “self-interest Israel” became thick-skinned toward God. Moses and Isaiah both commented on this: Fed up with their quarrelsome, self-centered ways, God blurred their eyes and dulled their ears, Shut them in on themselves in a hall of mirrors, and they’re there to this day. David was upset about the same thing: I hope they get sick eating self-serving meals, break a leg walking their self-serving ways. I hope they go blind staring in their mirrors, get ulcers from playing at god. The next question is, “Are they down for the count? Are they out of this for good?” And the answer is a clear-cut no. Ironically when they walked out, they left the door open and the outsiders walked in. But the next thing you know, the Jews were starting to wonder if perhaps they had walked out on a good thing. Now, if their leaving triggered this worldwide coming of non-Jewish outsiders to God’s kingdom, just imagine the effect of their coming back! What a homecoming! But I don’t want to go on about them. It’s you, the outsiders, that I’m concerned with now. Because my personal assignment is focused on the so-called outsiders, I make as much of this as I can when I’m among my Israelite kin, the so-called insiders, hoping they’ll realize what they’re missing and want to get in on what God is doing. If their falling out initiated this worldwide coming together, their recovery is going to set off something even better: mass homecoming! If the first thing the Jews did, even though it was wrong for them, turned out for your good, just think what’s going to happen when they get it right!

We have all tried to recover on our own and failed. we need God and we need other people. None of us were created in or for isolation. I love the verse in this scripture that says “their recovery is going to set off something even better.”

God has a plan and a purpose for each of us. My hope is we will all realize what a great opportunity is ours to walk with Jesus, in personal relationship through the avenues of recovery and become all that God is calling us to be.

Identifying Hurt People

Status

Matthew 5:43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbour.”

Welcome to Step Eight, which says “As part of the process of change, I will identify and record everyone I have harmed and through prayer become willing to make restitution to them.”

Now that we have worked on our relationship with God. Have taken time to get to know ourselves and have commenced the process of change it is time to start working on repairing our relationships with others. Part of that process is identifying the people hurt by our sinful habits and attitudes. I know many of us have been hurt by others and they need to go on our lists, but the purpose of this step is to identify those we have hurt. This is a preparation step for making amends and restitution. An important part of repairing broken relationships.

  • Are you prepared to honestly make a list of people you have harmed and how you have hurt them?

The WORD For Recovery

Prayer: Lord, open my heart and my mind as I search to identify the people I have hurt in the past.

The Bible

Status

2 Timothy 3:16 Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another–showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way.

The Bible is the eternal word of the Living God. Ot is powerful, personal, indespensible and indestructible. It originated in the mind of God, it is communicated by men and women vy the Spirit of God. 2 Peter 1:21 “It’s not something concocted in the human heart. Prophecy resulted when the Holy Spirit prompted men and women to speak God’s Word.” All Scripture is God breathed yet shaped into final word by the personlaity God chooses to use. The Bible is not passive instruction but a unique way of expressing the truth of God and His vital message for mankind.

Over many centuries the plan and purposes of God have unfolded in progressive revelation. Our purpose for spending personal time daily reading God’s Word and seeking His purpose for our lives needs to be one directed towards discovery of unity. One Book for all people.

Thought For The Day

Matthew 5:8 Blessed are those whose hearts are pure. They will see God.

God wants us to live pure lives. To clean up our attitudes and behavior. Recovery is not about personal gain. Recovery is about spiritual purpose.

Your spiritual purpose has nothing to do with where you work and everything to do with how you live. I always thought the two should line up. Wrong!

My spiritual purpose is – to introduce people to Bible-based living through the process of recovery. My employment life has been in a number of different areas since completing the Bridge Program.

All through my recovery journey, my spiritual process has remained dominant. Sometimes it has resulted in me having to leave or change jobs because the jobs I was in have gone against how I live my life.

Go to The Temple and Take Your Stand

Status

Scripture Reading: Acts 5:17-25

“Go to the Temple and take your stand. Tell the people everything there is to say about this Life.” Acts 5:20

Step 12: Having gone through these steps and discovering the importance of an individual relationship with God through Jesus, I will try to live according to His principles and to lead others to a personal relationship with Him.

Today I want to think about the message the angel spoke of. A new life that is available to us all. A new life of change.

Change comes to us through faith and the way we obtain faith is through the Word of God. The Bible is full of stories of people who through faith achieved great things. Another reason they achieved great things is that they were open to allowing God to change them. I believe one of the major stumbling blocks in us achieving great things is ‘PEOPLE TODAY ARE TOO PROUD TO ALLOW GOD TO CHANGE THEM. We get too comfortable in what we know and understand and are afraid to try new things. We need to humble ourselves before God.

No-one in this world, to my knowledge, ver achieved God’s will without humility. Jesus in John 13 washed the feet of His disciples, then ordered them to wash each other’s feet so they would learn a lesson in humility. He also wanted them to learn the importance of following his examples In order to change and become the people God wants us to become He expects us to also learn to follow the examples of Jesus. We have to learn to worship and praise Him, to serve Him with all our hearts in confidence and adoration.

God can and will use every one of us. If we let Him. We have to be prepared to change our attitudes and our actions. Wh have to take responsibility for our behavior. we have to face up to life, accept it and decide how God would have us live it differently? God keeps His promises to us. He promises nothing will ever be put in front of us we are unable to overcome with His help. Unless we are willing to open our hearts and lives to Him we have little or no chance of overcoming the problems of this world. He commands us to confidently follow Him. Love, Trust, and obedience to Him secure us a place in His Kingdom. If we are truly His children nothing on this earth will ever hurt us so bad we cannot recover from it.

I believe today I am a fairly confident, competent individual, not because I have any special talent but because I am a child of God and my chief aim in life is to glorify Him and do His work. I know that no matter where I am or what I am doing He is there with me. He guides me and protects me in every situation. I haven’t always felt that way. A few years ago I believed my only purpose in life was to get drunk, take drugs and cause trouble. I went out of my way to destroy relationships I had with other people because I felt I was not worthy of other people’s attention. I didn’t like the person I allowed myself to become through the life I led and I thought the rest of the world didn’t like me either.

Through the Salvation Army and The Bridge Program, I met Jesus and experienced the message of new life first hand. In John 2:28 the Bible tells us to continue in the ways of God, so on the day He appears to us we can face Him with confidence without shame. everything we need He supplies, if He is not then maybe we are seeking the wrong things. in his book ‘Prisoner of hope’ Barry Goode says “Prayer it seems is one of the most difficult pursuits for Christians. Yet it is most necessary and rewarding.” “You can find stones and rocks anywhere.” he says “but if you want something really precious like diamonds, gold or silver it takes time, effort, patience to unearth it.”

Everything God makes, He makes for a purpose. I am sure we are all aware of the verse in the Bible that says “Faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains.” God brings in His Kingdom by the mustard seed method. When we feel weak, ineffective, and inadequate as long as we have faith, even a minimum of faith God can use it.

When we feel weakest is usually when we are most open to the message of Jesus and the need for change in our lives. “Go stand in the temple courts and tell the people the full message of new life.” That’s the message the angel delivered to the apostles so long ago.

Today I would lie to say I believe only God knows the full message of new life. Only He knows how much can be achieved through faith in Him. And, the only way for us to find out His plan for us is to step out in faith, To let Him change us and lead us to new life so He can be glorified and we can be reconciled to him through the blood of Jesus.
