Keep a Firm Grip on What You’ve Heard

“Step out of the traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your High God, above politics, above everything.”  It’s crucial that we keep a firm grip on what we’ve heard so that we don’t drift off.

There is a root of sinful self-interest in us that is at odds with a free spirit, just as the free spirit is incompatible with selfishness. These two ways of life are antithetical, so that you cannot live at times one way and at times another way according to how you feel on any given day. Psalms 46:10 ~ Hebrews 2:1 ~ Galatians 5:17
The WORD For Recovery

Humility is a precursor to honor

Pride first, then the crash, but humility is a precursor to honor. The payoff for meekness and Fear-of-God is plenty and honor and a satisfying life. You who are younger must follow your leaders. But all of you, leaders and followers alike, are to be down to earth with each other, for– God has had it with the proud. But takes delight in just plain people.

A Message from the high and towering God, who lives in Eternity, whose name is Holy: “I live in the high and holy places, but also with the low-spirited, the spirit-crushed. What I do is put a new spirit in them, get them up and on their feet again.

Proverbs 18:12 ~ Proverbs 22:4 ~ 1 Peter 5:5 ~ Isaiah 57:15

New Life

Consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus. Because you belong to him, the powerof the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing.

The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

Romans 6:11~ Romans 8:2 ~ John 6:63 ~ Romans 8:11

#25-Heart Transformation

Psalms 69:20 They have broken my heart by saying evil things about me. It has left me helpless. I looked for pity, but I didn’t find any. I looked for someone to comfort me, but I didn’t find anyone.

The heart is the centre of human spirit. Our emotions, thoughts, motivations, courage and actions are all heart driven.

I don’t know about you but the only thing that drove my spirit during my addiction was my ‘drug of choice.’ Mines was alcohol and my life revolved around the next drink.

Coming into recovery I had to learn to feel differently, to think differently and to act differently.

The Twelve Steps and the Bible taught me and continue to teach me who I really am. They taught me my strengths and weaknesses and showed me how to live a positive and productive life.

-Have you decided to live differently?

Recovery Devotion #176, 2017

Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts. When I was an infant at my mother’s breast, I gurgled and cooed like any infant. When I grew up, I left those infant ways for good. We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us! So trust him absolutely, people; lay your lives on the line for him. God is a safe place to be.

Spiritual birth makes us a child of God. Have you asked God to make you a new person? To help you to put away the things in your past that are stopping you from growing up spiritually.

Childlike trust is essential to successful spiritual recovery. None of us are unworthy of time spent alone in the presence God. He welcomes us all and desires the best for us all.

We will know the Truth and it will set us free. If we are willing to put in the work, follow Jesus wherever He leads us and do whatever it is He is asking us to do.

Prayer: Lord today help me to faithfully follow You where ever Yo may lead me and do whatever You ask me to do.

If you look for God wholeheartedly you will find Him

The Spirit of God, the Master, is on me because God anointed me. He sent me to preach good news to the poor, heal the heartbroken, Announce freedom to all captives, pardon all prisoners.

Since, then, we do not have the excuse of ignorance, everything–and I do mean everything–connected with that old way of life has to go. It’s rotten through and through. Get rid of it! And then take on an entirely new way of life–a God-fashioned life.

When you come looking for God, you’ll find Him. When you get serious about finding Him and want it more than anything else, He’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed. He’ll turn things around for you. He’ll bring you out of exile. You can count on it.
