2022 | Day Four | Morning Harmony

God’s firm foundation is as firm as ever, these sentences engraved on the stones: GOD KNOWS WHO BELONGS TO HIM. 2 Timothy 2:19

Some of the people we meet in recovery distort the truth. Some dilute it, others like to spout their own truth. Or some simply want o delete God from the recovery process.

The solid foundation of God’s Word never changes. “He’s the same today as yesterday, My great unchanging friend.”

When we read, meditate on and follow His truth we will know His will for our lives.

2 Timothy 2:20-21 says “In a well-furnished kitchen there are not only crystal goblets and silver platters, but waste cans and compost buckets—some containers used to serve fine meals, others to take out the garbage. Become the kind of container God can use to present any and every kind of gift to his guests for their blessing.”

Paul urged Timothy to be the kind of person God can use for His purpose. As we grow spiritually in the process of recovery, we need to allow God to use us to get His message across to those still suffering the negative effect of their addiction and compulsions.

Staying close to God and keeping His commandments as we grow in His strength and His power as we work through the Twelve Steps of Living Life Recovery needs to become a daily priority in our lives.

Just for today Lord show me Your will for my life, learn what I need to learn and apply what I need to apply for You to use me.

Handling Differences

Be cheerful. Keep things in good repair. Keep your spirits up. Think in harmony. Be agreeable. Do all that, and the God of love and peace will be with you for sure.

                                                                                    2 Corinthians 13:11

Live in harmony. God wants us to get along. Healing comes when we accept each other’s differences. Healing and refreshment bring us together as a community.

Proverbs 17:14 says “The start of a quarrel is like a leak in a dam, so stop it before it bursts.”

Arguing over differences of opinion usually does more harm than good. Talking about our differences can become part of the solution, Too often we keep things to ourselves that should be shared to clear the air.

1 Corinthians 1:10 says “You must get along with each other. You must learn to be considerate of one another, cultivating a life in common.”

God brings to recovery people from all walks of life. He unites them through the Holy Spirit. Disagreement in life will come. The way to combat them is to talk them out.

Progress in rebuilding relationships is usually a result of settling differences. If we all thought and acted the same all the time there would be no ‘Spiritual Growth’

Prayer: Just for today let me get along with those you put on my path. Help me to understand their differences and talk about what bothers me

2022 | Day Three | Verse for Today

Verse for Today: Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle. James 1:17

The Bible often compares goodness with light and evil with darkness:

Light, space, zest— that’s God! So, with him on my side, I’m fearless, afraid of no one and nothing. Psalms 27:1

You’ll have no more need of the sun by day nor the brightness of the moon at night. God will be your eternal light, your God will bathe you in splendor. Your sun will never go down, your moon will never fade. I will be your eternal light. Your days of grieving are over. All your people will live right and well, in permanent possession of the land. They’re the green shoot that I planted, planted with my own hands to display my glory. The runt will become a great tribe, the weakling become a strong nation. I am God. At the right time, I’ll make it happen.” Isaiah 60:19-22

The Word was first, the Word present to God, God present to the Word. The Word was God, in readiness for God from day one. Everything was created through him; nothing—not one thing!— came into being without him. What came into existence was Life, and the Life was Light to live by. The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness; the darkness couldn’t put it out. John 1:1-5

God will protect us in times of fear. He has not forgotten us. Fearlessness should be a direct of knowing He has got this! Knowledge of His love for us should be enough in our lives to drive out any doubt and fear we may have. 1 John 4:18 says There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life—fear of death, fear of judgment—is one not yet fully formed in love. Are you still afraid of the recovery process? Do you doubt God loves you?

I have shared before, and share again. The greatest throw-away line in a message I ever heard was T.D. Jakes who said: “What if God wants to do something totally different? and, He wants to do it through you!” ARE YOU READY?

In one way or another, God makes sure that we all experience what it means to be outside so that he can personally open the door and welcome us back in. Romans 11:32

God gave us all free will. Even though He knew the mistakes we were all going to make. The addictions and compulsions we were all going to fall for He let us make our own choices.

God also gives us all the opportunity to rectify our mistakes. Jesus came to save sinners. God’s opportunity for us to be reunited with Him. To live our lives according to His purpose.

One of the hardest things for any of us to do is admit failure.

The ‘Good News’ is we are now in a place where everyone is on the same page and we are all aiming for the same goal ‘recovery from the pain our problems have caused us through our bad choices.’

None of us is good enough to achieve recovery on our own. The Bible tells us that. We all need God’s help and we all need each other.

We are all in recovery because of the opportunity Christ presented via the cross and the involvement of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives.

Prayer: Today God I commit to looking out for the opportunities You present, especially when I am struggling seek out someone to share it with.

2022 | Day Two | Morning Harmony

Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance. Why didn’t I listen to my mentors, or take my teachers seriously? In prayer, there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can’t get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God’s part. If you stop your ears to the cries of the poor, your cries will go unheard, unanswered. God says I’m ready to pour out my spirit on you; I’m ready to tell you all I know. Are you listening?

Paying attention to what the Bible says is important. It is our guidebook to right-living. In my life, through my spiritual walk, God has given me strong men of faith as my mentors. Sometimes I didn’t listen to them. Or, I listened and did what I intended to do anyway. It still amazes me when things occur in my life and I remember things they said, the advice they suggested that I failed to take notice of or act on at the time. God knows what he is doing! When He puts people in our lives to guide us and mentor us they are the right people – God-appointed people.

As you go through the process of recovery and God introduces you to people further down the spiritual path than you are, don’t ignore them. Listen, learn and apply what you learn from them. It will save you a lot of time and heartache.

Teach me today Lord to identify the people you bring into my life as advisers and counselors. Make me listen to them and apply the lessons You have given them for me.

2022 | Day Two | Verse for Today

The Bible suggests many valuable principles we have lacked in our addictions and compulsions. The Word of God prompts us to take inventory of our character and behavior. Counsel and instruction are two different things. counsel is advice on how we should live, Instruction is how we should apply what we have learned.

I have known a number of people throughout my spiritual walk who know the Bible better than I do. And, who knows the Twelve Steps better than I. Some of them have failed to apply the advice they have been given, become complacent in their own understanding, and fallen in a heap. we have all heard stories of people who have left recovery ‘before the miracle happens.’ My hope for 2022 is that people engaged with Living Life Recovery will stick around long enough and take in enough of what they read and hear here to let God do what He wants to do in their lives.

God’s plan for the world stands up, all his designs are made to last. Psalms 33:11

God’s plans are God’s plans. They don’t change because we change. I don’t know about you, but my life pre-recovery was full of inconsistencies. I couldn’t trust myself, let alone trust anyone else. Trusting others in recovery came slowly for me.

I knew I could trust God. I have always known it, but I choose not to. He was for weak people, and I never saw myself as weak. I knew if I was going to trust Him it needed to be “ALL IN’ I have never been a half-full type person it has always been all or nothing.

Reading the Bible, I realized the promises of God were good and perfect. Two words I had never known in my life. James 1:17 says “Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven….. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle.” I knew if I was going to follow Him I had to change my attitudes, beliefs and, commitments.

I did and here I am 30+ still following Him, still committed to finding, and doing His will on a daily basis in every area of my life. God is good.

Thank you, Jesus, for trusting me and using me in your mission. Teach me how to use the gifts You give me to maximize the reach of Your Kingdom here on Earth.

2022 | Day 1 |Morning Harmony

We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but God’s purpose prevails. Form your purpose by asking for counsel, then carry it out using all the help you can get. God’s wisdom is something mysterious that goes deep into the interior of his purposes. You don’t find it lying around on the surface. It’s not the latest message, but more like the oldest—what God determined as the way to bring out his best in us, long before we ever arrived on the scene. It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living,

Too often we think the answer is within us. We think we know all the answers. Here is my question for today “If you have all the answers how did you end up in recovery?” We won’t discover the best way of living by living by our own knowledge and desires. God wants to bring out the best in us. To do that He expects us to give our best to Him. at the beginning of 2022 if we want to move forward spiritually, mentally, and physically we need to decide today to commit our lives to God’s care. Recovery is about the discovery of our true identity. We require help to discover who we really are and to face up to some of the truths about ourselves. God knows what we need to go through and he is committed to equipping us to go through it, if we are.

Lord just for today help me to commit to Your plan fro my life and listen for Your voice as I go through the day. Show me what I need to know and need to do to discover Your purpose and carry it out.
