The book of Jude- Day 1

Living Life Recovery is a safe place where people can come and investigate the reality of God’s promises for their life, at there own pace.
A book in the Bible I have not spent a lot of time in is ‘Jude’ not sure why. It’s a short book filled with Scripture Gems’
“In a word, what I’m saying is, Grow up. You’re kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you. Matthew 5:48
Psalms 95:1 Come, let us sing praise to the Lord! Let us shout praises to the Rock who saves us.
In the Bible there are many examples of stillness and silence in God’s presence taught and illustrated, there are just as many examples of worship and praise. One on one, quiet time and loud praise to God both appropriate expressions of love of our great God.
Through the process of recovery God doesn’t want us to ‘keep quiet under every circumstance’ He also wants us to let others know we love Him, we are tankful for what He has done in our lives and we want them to share in the opportunity He has prepared for them.
WHEN GOD FORGIVES US WE DON’T HAVE TO KEEP WORRYING
“I am the shepherd who cares for the sheep. ” John 10:14
Worry wears us down; a cheerful word picks us up. If you don’t know what you are doing pray. God loves to help.
You will get His help, and He will not chastise you for asking for it. Ask boldly, believe, without a second thought. Don’t just talk about recovery. Practice what you have learned. Live in God’s reality. He is greater than your worries and knows about you in ways you do not know yourself.
Psalms 71:8 As each day brims with your beauty, my mouth brims with praise.
Thought
God is pleased when we think about His Word. When we study it, meditate on it and apply it to our lives.
Joshua 1:8-9 says “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Read Joshua 1:1-9 Joshua/ost his close friend and mentor Moses. Instead of using it as an excuse to give up he immediately took up the leadership role. Unworthy and unprepared he demontarted bold obedience to God , able to do what God required of him because He was willing to turn His will and His life over to the care of God.
I AM MAKING A DECISION TO LET GOD HELP ME CHANGE AND COMMIT TO WORKING WITH HIM TO DO SO
– Joshua made a decision to let God help him become all he needed t be and he made a commitment to do whatever God told him to do, when God told him to do it.
Meditation
Each day do my thoughts, words, and actions line up with God’s purpose for my life?
– Do I think about things that would please God?
– Do my words reflect what I am thinking about?
– Do I act like someone who is following God’s direction?
I ask myself these three questions because sometimes when I wake up my head is not in the right place. I allow my own desires and plans to take precedence over what God wants me to do and so I set myself up for failure because I am not depending on Him.
God created desires in us as a way of expressing our individual personalities. Desires in our lives are healthy when properly directed. If they are good and God-honoring. Bt the can also bring us unstuck if we allow our own desires to become more important than God’s desires or us.
Prayer
Proverbs 2:3-5 Cry out for insight and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God.
Lord help me today to cry out to You for insight. Seek to understand Your plans for my day and search for ways to make Your will my reality as I go through this day.
Praise the Lord. I will praise the Lord with all my heart. I will praise him where honest people gather for worship. The Lord has done great things. All who take delight in what he has done will spend time thinking about it. What he does shows his glory and majesty. He will always do what is right. The Lord causes his miracles to be remembered. He is kind and tender. He provides food for those who have respect for him. He remembers his covenant forever. He has shown his people what his power can do. He has given them the lands of other nations. He is faithful and right in everything he does. All his rules can be trusted. Psalms 111:1-7
FOCUS VERSE: Psalms 111:2 God’s works are so great, worth A lifetime of study—endless enjoyment! (msg)
Implimentintation of Step 12 in our lives is a demonstration of God’s power to release us from the bondage of our addictions and compulsions. Sharing the ‘Good News’ of God’s deliverance with others helps them and gives them encouragement God can do for them what He has done for us.
We have a high priest who can feel it when we are weak and hurting. We have a high priest who has been tempted in every way, just as we are. But he did not sin. Hebrews 4:15
On completion of my list of sinful habits, I will confess them to God and
to someone that I trust.
Psalms 40:12 There are more troubles all around me than I can count. My sins have caught up with me, and I can’t see any longer. My sins are more than the hairs of my head. I have lost all hope.
Sin creates a barrier between us and God. If we want to break down the barriers we need to understand God is greater than the barrier. Through the process of recovery, He has given us hope for reconciliation with Him.
Prayer is one of the most important processes of recovery. I learned early on in recovery that when I talked to God, listened to His response and guidance things were a lot easier.
From a personal point of view, I also realised I have to think too much about something it is not good for me and it is not from God.
WHAT WE NEED NOT WHAT WE WANT
When you do ask for something, you don’t receive it. Why? Because you ask for the wrong reason..
James 4:3
IT TAKES FAITH
Without faith, it isn’t possible to please God. Hebrews 11:6
IT TAKES BELIEF
“I tell you, when you pray for something, believe that you have already received it.” Mark 11:24
STOP WORRYING ABOUT IT
Don’t worry about anything. Instead, tell God about everything. Ask and pray. Give thanks to him.
Philippians 4:6
Prayer: Lord when I talk to You teach me to also stop and listen.
STEP FIVE:
On completion of my list of sinful habits, I will confess them to God
and to someone that I trust.
BIBLE READING: I’m on the edge of losing it— the pain in my gut keeps burning. I’m ready to tell my story of failure, I’m no longer smug in my sin. My enemies are alive and in action, a lynch mob after my neck. I give out good and get back evil from God-haters who can’t stand a God-lover. Psalms 38:17-20
FOCUS VERSE: Psalms 38:18 I’m ready to tell my story of failure, I’m no longer smug in my sin.
By the mercy and truth of God in Christ Jesus, the power of sin is broken.
Guilt is banished through love and truth; Fear-of-God deflects evil. Proverbs 16:6
Our hearts are affected by the excellence of the Word of God
Clean the slate, God, so we can start the day fresh! Keep me from stupid sins, from thinking I can take over your work; Then I can start this day sun-washed, scrubbed clean of the grime of sin. Psalms 19:13
Confessing our sin to another person is an important step in the process of spiritual growth
Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed. The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with. James 5:16
THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Overwhelmed by guilt I came to recovery. Not because I wanted to but because I had nowhere else to go. Troubled by the mess I had made of my life I wanted to do better. I didn’t want to keep living the lies and the crisis I existed in daily.
The only way out for me was God. Admitting what I had done wrong to Him was one of the greatest reliefs I have ever experienced in my life. To tell him about things I had never told anyone about, and seek His help in changing them was a saving grace in my recovery journey. I held nothing back because I was aware if I failed again I was finished.
Dramatic but true I was troubled by my sin. The solution to the solution was confession and repentance.
How are you dealing with the guilt?
Prayer: God help me to deal with the guilt. Help me to be honest with You about it and do whatever You prompt me to do to fix it.
RECOVERY CHANGES LIVES
Psalms 32:3 When I kept silent about my sin, my body became weak because I groaned all day long.
Suppressed guilt and shame in my life because of how I was living made it impossible for me to live a normal life. All-day, every day I searched in vain for an answer to my problems.
Coming into recovery changed that. Just being able to talk about my problems openly and honestly in a safe environment helped me so much to open my mind and heart to God and others. There is nothing I enjoy more in my life today than an opportunity to share my experience, strength, and hope with people.
Several years ago a Pastor in the church I belonged to used to ask me week after week “Archie are you RFA?” I never knew what he was talking about till I asked him weeks later. Ready for Anything!
Prayer: Lord, today let me be ready for anything You prompt me to do and equip me to do it.
Guilt causes us to hide from God
When the Woman saw that the tree looked like good eating and realized what she would get out of it—she’d know everything!—she took and ate the fruit and then gave some to her husband, and he ate. Immediately the two of them did “see what’s really going on”—saw themselves naked! They sewed fig leaves together as makeshift clothes for themselves. When they heard GOD strolling in the garden in the evening breeze, the Man and his Wife hid in the trees of the garden, hid from GOD. Genesis 3:6-8
A guilt conscience is a warning signal from God that goes off when we have done the wrong thing or intend to do the wrong thing. Eliminating our guilty feelings through taking mind-altering substances is like using a painkiller. It does not cure the disease. Guilty feelings are God given. They make us aware of our sin and encourage us to ask God for forgiveness and change whatever is causing the guilt.
Jesus Christ takes away all guilt
Since we’ve compiled this long and sorry record as sinners (both us and them) and proved that we are utterly incapable of living the glorious lives God wills for us, God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity, he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it through Jesus Christ. Romans 3:23-24
There are no minor sins, and the Bible tells us all sin leads to death. (because they disqualify us from living our lives according to God’s Word) Don’t minimize sin in your life. Suppressed guilt and shame make it impossible for us to live lives that are pleasing to God. He prompts us and equips us to deal with what we need to deal with to become the people He wants us to be.
Living Life Recovery is a safe place where people can come, share and investigate the realities of God’s promises for themselves.
We believe that as we investigate God’s promises for our lives and practice the ‘Spiritual Principles of Recovery’ as outlined in ‘God’s Word’ we will find the strength and freedom we need to live productive and peaceful lives.
We welcome anyone who has a sincere desire to change their lives. To rise above the pain and turmoil caused by dependencies and compulsive behaviors their own lives or the lives of a loved one or friend.
Many of us wallow in our pasts and sink easily into the harbour of such memories. Ask forgiveness for allowing these feelings to overcome what you know is your new reality. This episode is also available as a blog post: https://livingliferecovery.com/2022/04/27/thougtfortoday/
