Lives of unrelenting disappointment have left us with a lot of heartbreak in our lives. Now we are in recovery and rebuilding our lives. Psalm 119:82-84 saysMy eyes grow heavy watching for some sign of your promise; how long must I wait for your comfort?  There’s smoke in my eyes—they burn and water, but I keep a steady gaze on the instructions you post. How long do I have to put up with all this? How long till you haul my tormentors into court?”

– When our eyes fail to see what God is doing, our faith in Him must not. His ways are not our ways, otherwise, there would be no need to call on Him to help us get well because we would be happy in our misery. None of us ever expected God to do for us what we could not do for ourselves. But He has and because He has we need to accept the break that He has given us and the opportunity to turn our lives around.

“You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.”

In order to discover God’s purpose for my life, implement it and to improve my relationship with Him, I will spend time daily in prayer, reading the Bible and meditating on it

God wants us to do what is right always.  His word is our road map to doing the right things in our thoughts, in our behaviours and in life in general. If you are struggling with a decision, a choice or a direction to go in your life take time to pray about it and read what God’s Word says about it before you act.

I used to work with a guy who used to say “It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.” For some of us that is how we have lived our lives. Doing what we want to do and dealing with whatever consequences followed.

Discussion Starter Question

Have you started looking at things praying about them and waiting for God to respond before you tackle them unprepared?

LLR Thought for the Day

God’s angry displeasure erupts as acts of human mistrust and wrongdoing and lying accumulate, as people try to put a shroud over truth.

Meditation for the Day

God’s power can deliver us from our addictive and compulsive behaviours and attitudes, but only if we are prepared to be rigorously honest with Him. To avoid His displeasure we need to apply what we learn from the Bible, the Holy Spirit and the Twelve Steps.

Prayer for the Day

Lord, help me today to help You to help me avoid Your displeasure by being honest with You and applying what You teach me through Your Word, Your Spirit and the Twelve Steps.

God Will Make a Way. Where there seems to be no way

“After arriving back home, his disciples cornered Jesus and asked, “Why couldn’t we throw the demon out?” He answered, “There is no way to get rid of this kind of demon except by prayer.”” Mark 9:28-29

If we could have fixed our problems on our own we would have by now. Some of our demons can only be defeated by prayer and God’s intervention. He loves us He cares for us and we need to put our faith in His ability not only to change us but to change everything if He chooses to.

Step eleven is simple “He works in ways we cannot see and He will make away.” If we let Him,

Step Eleven – Week Two

In order to discover God’s purpose for my life, implement it and to improve my relationship with Him, I will spend time daily in prayer, reading the Bible and meditating on i

2 Timothy 3:16-17 Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.

– God prepares us, through learning, implementing and living the twelve steps to become the best version of who created us to be. The Twelve Steps accompanied by Scripture are our training programme to living God’s way.

Hebrews 4:12 God means what he says. What He says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey.

– Studying the Bible, not just reading it regularly and checking ourselves against it shape our character. Through prayer the Holy Spirit highlights what we need to do, how it needs to be done, when it needs to be done and equips us to DO IT!

John 8:31-32 Jesus turned to the Jews who had claimed to believe in him. “If you stick with this, living out what I tell you, you are my disciples for sure. Then you will experience for yourselves the truth, and the THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE.

– The truth about ourselves, about God and about life is revealed through daily interaction with God’s Word. We experience it through obedience to what His Word reveals to us personally, as a group and as a COMMUNITY.

Psalms 119:50-52 These words hold me up in bad times; yes, your promises rejuvenate me. The insolent ridicule me without mercy, but I don’t budge from your revelation. I watch for your ancient landmark words, and know I’m on the right track.

– The Bible helps us through bad times. Recovery is not always an easy process but God’s promise to us of changed life is always true and keeps us on the right track when we STAY FOCUSED.

Psalms 119:26-27 When I told my story, you responded; train me well in your deep wisdom. Help me understand these things inside and out so I can ponder your miracle-wonders.

– Through the Bible God responds to us and trains us in His wisdom. Through the Bible we learn to understand His ways and adapt them to our daily living. Changed life begins on the inside.

Psalms 119:89 What God says stays, as permanent as the heavens. His truth never goes out of fashion; it’s as up-to-date as the earth when the sun comes up. His Word and truth are as dependable as ever.

– The Bible is as relevant and dependable as it has always been. Reading and studying it daily changes our thinking, belief and commitment to changing our lives and becoming all He is calling us to be.

Looking For God’s Love

God’s eye is on those who respect him, the ones who are looking for his love. Psalms 33:18

God Rejoices when we follow His will, live our lives in every area to His plan and purpose. Now I know that is not easy but that is why it is called ‘Spiritual Growth’ None of us got to the point in our lives overnight where we thought ‘I think I will follow God’ It was a process of trial and error where we tried things and sometimes failed, but we never stopped trying.

It says in 1 John 2:9 Anyone who claims to live in God’s light and hates a brother or sister is still in the dark.

One of the identifications of being on the right track in recovery is how we treat and react to others. Through us God wants to love others who still suffer from the negative effects of addiction and compulsion. A very wise mentor of mine told me many years ago “Archie because of who you are. because of your experience, strength, and hope you have been given the ability to reach people that won’t even talk to me.” God’s love not only sets us free it prepares us to be used by him to make a difference in the lives of others.

Access To God

We throw open our doors to God and discover at the same moment that he has already thrown open His door to us. We find ourselves standing where we always hoped we might stand—out in the wide-open spaces of God’s grace and glory, standing tall and shouting our praise.

Jesus Christ possesses the master key that will admit us to everything God has prepared for us. When He justifies the ungodly we can move forward in His blessings of grace, peace, and communion with Him. Repentance is the gate that opens opportunities in our lives we could not even have dreamed in the past.

When we mature spiritually through the process of recovery we experience peace beyond our human understanding.

Grab Hold of Hope

Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you. Psalms 39:7

The Lord is the source of all hope because He understands our pasts, guides us in the present and knows our future.

I’m glad from the inside out, ecstatic; I’ve pitched my tent in the land of hope. I have committed myself heart and soul to what God promised my ancestors. May the God of green hope fill you up with joy, fill you up with peace, so that your believing lives, filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit, will brim over with hope!

Remember that your bodies are created with the same dignity as the Master’s body. With Gods kind of hope to excite us, nothing can hold us back. The Message is as true among you today as when you first heard it. It doesn’t diminish or weaken over time. Speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you’re already doing this; just keep on doing it. God can’t break his word. And because His word cannot change, His promises are likewise unchangeable. We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go.

Persist in Prayer

Persistence in prayer is an important requirement in the recovery process. Persistence is needed because we are working with God’s help to overcome the many hurdles of our past that have brought us unstuck. we are also facing many new trials in our lives we have never had to face before.

Moved by the extravagance of God in your lives, they’ll respond by praying for you in passionate intercession for whatever you need.
2 Corinthians 9:14

Respond by humbling yourself, praying, seeking God’s presence, and turning your backs on your wicked life, I’ll be there ready for you: I’ll listen from heaven, forgive their sins, and restore their land to health. 2 Chronicles 7:14

I’m thanking you, God, from a full heart, I’m writing the book on your wonders. I’m whistling, laughing, and jumping for joy; I’m singing your song, High God. Psalm 9:1-2
