Think straight. Awaken to the holiness of life. No more playing fast and loose with resurrection facts. Ignorance of God is a luxury you can’t afford in times like these. Aren’t you embarrassed that you’ve let this kind of thing go on as long as you have? 1 Corinthians 15:34 MSG
God shows His compassion by not giving us the punishment we deserve. Instead, He gives us blessings we don’t deserve, forgiving us and transforming us into who we are intended to be. God showed His care for us by sending Jesus to take our punishment and open the Way to Him. He is compassionate, merciful and loving to all who call on His name.
From next week on my SoundCloud podcast I will be starting the series Daily Life Recovery. A series of my daily recovery experiences, strength and hope. Produced to encourage others to investigate the promises of God in their lives at their own pace, and to encourage others to do the same. Here is a post I did a number of years ago on the Twelve Steps of Living Life Recovery. I hope you will join me as I share this series, which will only be available here on http://livingliferecovery.com If you know anyone who might benefit from listening please share the link with them.
Most times God has led me into something new it has been a surprise to me.
All my journey of spiritual growth people have suggested to me “you should do this.” “I think you would be good at ____________” the times I have paid attention, listened to them, and sometimes tried what they have suggested it has all gone pair shaped.
Why?
I have said many times and I believe strongly my faith has always been simple. God has opened doors. Usually doors I would never have tried to open on my own because I felt unequipped to. Doors that when He has opened them I have walked through, and in faith trusted Him to lead me in the right directions on the other side of them.
Proverbs 19:21 says “you can make plans, but the Lords purpose prevails,” To often in recovery we get ahead of where God has placed us. Plan the next step on our own, without including Him and are surprised things don’t work out the way we think they should.
We need to learn as we walk the recovery road to trust God, wait on Him and accept that if it hasn’t happened yet you are probably not ready for it.
WE ADMITTED WE WERE POWERLESS
Isaiah 40:29 He gives power to the tired and worn out, and strength to the weak.
Don’t get ahead of the Master and jump to conclusions with your judgments before all the evidence is in. When he comes, he will bring out in the open and place in evidence all kinds of things we never even dreamed of—inner motives and purposes and prayers. Only then will any one of us get to hear the “Well done!” of God. 1 Corinthians 4:5
Recovery is a lifelong process of spiritual progress. We will not get it overnight. But there are three things we need to do if we want to continue to mature spiritually and progress to becoming all God has planned for us to be and to do. They are:
Prayer: Just for today Lord help me to keep moving forward in recovery.
I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back. Philippians 3:12-14
James 4:14-15 You don’t know the first thing about tomorrow. You’re nothing but a wisp of fog, catching a brief bit of sun before disappearing. Instead, make it a habit to say, “If the Master wills it and we’re still alive, we’ll do this or that.”
Ephesians 5:16-17 Make the most of every chance you get. These are desperate times! Don’t live carelessly, unthinkingly. Make sure you understand what the Master wants.
We look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life burgeons!
2 Corinthians 5:17
2 Corinthians 4:16-17 We’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times; the lavish celebration prepared for us.
Let me give you some good advice; I’m looking you in the eye and giving it to you straight: Psalms 32:8
James 5:16 Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed. The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with.
Hebrews 4:12 God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey.
Join me next week as we have a look at the Twelve Steps together.
Living Life Recovery is a safe place where people can come, share and investigate the realities of God’s promises for themselves.
We believe that as we investigate God’s promises for our lives and practice the ‘Spiritual Principles of Recovery’ as outlined in ‘God’s Word’ we will find the strength and freedom we need to live productive and peaceful lives.
We welcome anyone who has a sincere desire to change their lives. To rise above the pain and turmoil caused by dependencies and compulsive behaviors their own lives or the lives of a loved one or friend.
On completion of my list of sinful habits, I will confess them to God and to someone that I trust. Join me this week for week three of Step Five
