Accountability

GOD WILL HOLD US ACCOUNTABLE FOR OUR SIN
Ezekiel 18:30 I will judge each of you, according to
your actions, says the Sovereign Lord. Repent, and
turn from your sins. Don’t let them destroy you!

WE ARE ACCOUNTABLE FOR EVERY WORD THAT WE SPEAK
Matthew 12:37 The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.

WE ARE ACCOUNTABLE FOR WHAT WE BELIEVE
JOHN 3:18 There is no judgment against anyone who believes in Him. But anyone who does not believe in Him has already been judged for not believing in God

GOD WILL EXAMINE OUR ACTIONS
2 Corinthians 5:10 We must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.

Simply Trusting One Day At A Time

Sometimes we make faith more complicated than it should be. Faith is simply trusting Jesus to do what He has promised. What He promises is if we put our faith in Him we will live with Hime forever in heaven, Mark 5:36 Jesus overheard what they were talking about and said to the leader, “Don’t listen to them; just trust me.”

What marvelous love the Father has extended to us!

Our relationship with Christ makes us children of God What marvelous love the Father has extended to us! Just look at it–we’re called children of God! That’s who we really are. But that’s also why the world doesn’t recognize us or take us seriously because it has no idea who he is or what he’s up to. But friends, that’s exactly who we are: children of God. And that’s only the beginning. Who knows how we’ll end up! What we know is that when Christ is openly revealed, we’ll see him–and in seeing him, become like him. All of us who look forward to his Coming stay ready, with the glistening purity of Jesus’ life as a model for our own. 1 John 3:1-3

When We Choose To Love Others God Helps Us Express His Love.

John 13:34I give you a new command. Love one another. You must love one another, just as I have loved you.”

Love is a command from Jesus. It is not an optional extra. It is not shown just be respecting others but also by self-sacrifice and serving others.

Love is unifying, an identifying mark of our spiritual progress. A growing relationship with God is a direct result of our growing relationships with others.

Love is also a choice. It is not about liking or disliking others or disagreeing with them.  It is the choice between forgiving and resenting. To be concerned with the well-being of others and to treating them right.

When we choose to love others God helps us to express His love.

New Life

1 Peter 1:4 He has given us new birth so that we might share in what belongs to him. This is a gift that can never be destroyed. It can never spoil or even fade away. It is kept in heaven for you.

New life for me began whilst I was on the Bridge Program. After asking Jesus to become my Higher Power I got involved in a ‘Bible Study Group’ that were studying ‘The Navigators’ Bible Study Series. That series was my introduction to the Christian way of living and it helped me to change.

I believe that series prepared me for step four and I would advise anyone in recovery, at the step three stage to get involved in a good ‘Bible Study Group’ Not only do you learn a lot but they are a great support as you begin the process of taking a good look at yourself and what you need to change to live right.

For most of us, Bible Study will be a foreign concept. Can I suggest, if you haven’t already got a Bible to get one and start by reading the book of John.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for giving me another chance at change

Amazing Grace

I woke up this morning with the words ‘Amazing Grace’ going through my mind and I found myself asking myself “What is amazing grace?” And like any good follower of Jesus, I prayed that God would show me what His amazing grace is all about. Which led me to ‘The Bible’ Below are some of the things I discovered. I am sure I am only touching the surface when it comes to describing God’s Amazing Grace.

THROUGH HIS AMAZING GRACE WE ARE PROTECTED AND PROVIDED FOR
God is our Light and our Protector. He gives us grace and glory. No good thing will he withhold from those who walk along his paths. Psalms 84:11

THROUGH HIS AMAZING GRACE HE SENT JESUS TO SHOW US THE RIGHT WAY TO LIVE
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

THROUGH HIS AMAZING GRACE WE CAN KNOW THE TRUTH THAT SETS US FREE
For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John 1:17

THROUGH HIS AMAZING GRACE EVERYTHING I GOT WRONG CAN BE PUT RIGHT
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Romans 3:23-24

THROUGH HIS AMAZING GRACE I SURVIVED MY ADDICTION AND CAN REMEMBER WHAT I USED TO BE LIKE
In order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:7-10

THROUGH HIS AMAZING GRACE RECOVERY IS AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE AND WE CAN CHANGE
The grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age. Titus 2:11-12

THROUGH HIS AMAZING GRACE I HAVE A FRIEND The Holy Spirit WHO WALKS WITH ME DAILY
He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:5-7

One of my favorite songs of all time. After this Holy Spirit led lesson I love it even more.

What’s Your Story

My name is Archie and I am a recovered alcoholic. Recovered through the saving grace of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit living in and through my life on a daily basis.

In 1989 after a couple of years of trying to achieve sobriety via Alcoholics Anonymous I was bankrupt physically, mentally and spiritually. Alone in my room in a rehab Jesus Christ challenged me to ‘follow Him’ I did and a result I became a new creation. 2 Corinthians 5:17  When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun!

Today I live life totally different from I used to in every area of my life and I am blessed. Matthew 19:26 Jesus said, “No chance at all if you think you can pull it off yourself. Every chance in the world if you trust God to do it.”

#2272 Thought For Today

Honor and enjoy your Creator while you’re still young Before the years take their toll and your vigor wanes Before your vision dims and the world blurs And the winter years keep you close to the fire. Ecclesiastes 12:1-2

This is a call to action to the young. Today my son Duncan turns 23. At the age of  23, I entered recovery for the first time. At the age of 23, I began a journey that made me who I am today. Now at the age of 55 (56 in May) the urge to seek and to do God’s will is so more urgent. Today my life is inspired to ‘Be different and make a difference.’ So others might see the Lord in me and seek Him as they walk the road to recovery in His presence.

#2263 Thought For Today

Sometimes the pressures of life seem too much for us. We long to be free from them. We forget that a diamond is just a lump of coal that has been under pressure! It’s true. Both coal and diamond consist of carbon. The difference is due to the situation in which each is found. So if you feel you’re under pressure, it may be that God is making a diamond out of you.

If you want to keep from becoming fainthearted and weary, think about his patience as sinful men did such terrible things to him. After all, you have never yet struggled against sin and temptation until you sweat great drops of blood. And have you quite forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you, his child? He said, “My son, don’t be angry when the Lord punishes you. Don’t be discouraged when he has to show you where you are wrong. For when he punishes you, it proves that he loves you. When he whips you, it proves you are really his child.” Let God train you, for he is doing what any loving father does for his children. Whoever heard of a son who was never corrected? Hebrews 12:3-7

#2119 The Reason I Live

Matthew 17:20 “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

LLR Post

Jeremiah 33:3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.’
